Re: Mustang Press ConferenceRodger the dodger got a little tongue tied when he first got up there as he didn't quite know what to say about the SMU Football program and JJ's success here....haven't heard JJ quite so dare I say ....elequent with his speech.....
Re: Mustang Press ConferenceI used to think Gerald Turner "got it". Now, I just don't think so. Or he does a good job of faking really giving a crap about athletics. How could you have the pulse of SMU fans and trot this crap out? Hasn't he seen the false starts and fake traditions flop badly the past 6 or 7 years? This has no chance of being supported by 90% of real SMU fans. Turner is good at raising money and politics, which is important in a prez, but besides the Boulevard, his record presiding over athletics and the ancillary stuff is dismal.
Re: Mustang Press ConferenceAt least he acts interested in Athletics...Pye sure didn't care to.....
Re: Mustang Press ConferenceDr Turner, I think, is working on what most US Presidents do...his legacy. Buildings etc.
As for Staubach...first the sellout thing, now this. I wonder if he's thinking "hey guys...yall know I went to Navy, right?"
Re: Mustang Press ConferenceReading the article in the DMN today, it appears Peruna will no longer be leading the team out onto the field:
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... e596c.html "...............................Boone and Madeleine are presenting SMU with a trained mustang, which pleases head coach June Jones. "My team wants to come out behind a mustang," he said. The Oct. 17 spectacular will feature a salute to the armed forces with paratroopers dropping into Gerald Ford Stadium to deliver the game ball and a performance by Michael Martin Murphey, composer of "Wildfire." Peruna is my mascot!
