I think it'll be a BCS team who has a down year, like Notre Dame last year. Or maybe Washington who sucked last year and gets bowl eligible.

Not necessarily a bad thing for SMU, as IF we get to go, a lot of UH fans might show up to cheer for JJ. Or just show up out of curiousity.

Only thing is, if WAC has an eligible team, Hawaii Bowl has to extend an invitation (unless they can work a deal with another bowl to slot that team somewhere else)

Orsini and Co. have been in contact with Hawaii Bowl officials who have assured SMU will be extended an invitiation to the Hawaii Bowl if possible, and apparently, in exchange, Orsini has stated that we would accept that invitation unless, somehow, we were conference champions and invited to the Liberty Bowl.

I have a source that confirms this, and apparently couch 'em has multiple sources that also confirm.
