nattering nabobs of negativism

"[Here at SMU today], we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism. They have formed their own 4-H Club -- the "hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history."
Johnny Fontane: Oh, Godfather, I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do.
Don Corleone: [shouts] You can act like a man!
[he slaps Johnny]
Don Corleone: What's the matter with you. Is this how you turned out? A Hollywood finocchio that cries like a woman.
[Don Corleone imitates him sobbing]
Don Corleone: What can I do?
[camera pans to Tom who is laughing]
Don Corleone: What can I do? What is that nonsense. Ridiculous.
The SMU fan needs to suck it up and stop acting like a Cubs fan. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa. We lost a friggin game to a top 10 opponent on the road in the friggin' rain when we were 28 point underdogs. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa.
We lost two straight! Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa. One to our cross-town rivals and one to a crappy PAC-10 opponent. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa.
Bo Levi Mitchell threw an interception. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa. He overthrew receivers. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa.
The refs suck. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa. The refs hate us. Waaaaaa waaaaaa waaaaaa.
Newsflash: SMU has sucked for 20 years. Some of it was because of rebuilding. Some of it was bad decisions. Some of it was a stupid administration that thought it could take on the rest of college football with both arms behind its back.
Did you think this was going to be easy? Who the hell thought this was going to be easy? Have we so forgotten what it takes to win that we treat every miscue or bad play as if it were a freakin' disaster? As if we are friggin' cursed and the football gods are purposefully preventing us from winning?
I don’t know what you were expecting, but this is exactly what I expected. I expected SMU to be 2-2 after four games. If there are any surprises, I dare say it is that the defense is a little better than I expected. I have done a reasonably good job of predicting SMU seasons for the past 5 years or so. I saw that Bennett’s last season was going to be a disaster. I didn’t expect June to turn this ship around overnight.
SMU is 2-2 with 8 to play. SMU is 1-0 in conference. SMU plays 5of the next 8 at home. If SMU wins 4 more games, odds are SMU goes to a bowl. From here on out, we are very likely to be in every game we play until the end. We just need to have more points on the board than the other team when the clock hits 0:00 in the Fourth quarter. SMU can still accomplish its goals this season.
Suck it up.

The militant sunshiners strike again. I guess now the dissenters are now going to be marginalized for having an opinion that runs counter.
Should we dare to voice something that we believe to be inconsistent we are going to be flogged. OK, I guess I need to grab my torch and axe to defend myself. That's what this board is for and will remain a forum for debate. Debate is healthy and it challenges all of us.
I make no apologies about having my doubts about whether the Jones era will succeed here. I'd rather study and question than just accept everything at face value.
I hope to be proven incorrect.
WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO QUESTION EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF THE LLOYD BUILDING!! AND WE CERTAINLY AS HELL SHOULD!!
Any maybe borrowing a quote from a known tax evader probably wasn't the best idea for the title of this thread. Something from Ronald Reagan may have worked better.

I always laugh when I am called a sunshiner. I wrote the SMU Football Blog. I got hate e-mail.
I am not a sunshiner. I don't dispute the right to question decisions. I didn't say not to criticize. I said to suck it up. We got beat. We will lose another game or more. BLM or whoever the QB is will throw another interception.
I have no problem with [deleted]. I have a problem with whining and hiding and refusing to go to games. There has always been plenty of the former, but right now there is too much of the latter.

Way to go Dooby! Right On. It doesn't mean we have to be happy with everything that happens on and off the field. True SMU fans have suffered for years. The players here now weren't here 10, 15, 20, 25 years ago and frankly most don't care what happened 20 years ago. They are here now to be part of a great turnaround along with getting a great education. No true fan who knows anything about sports should criticize any amateur player for his play except for maybe bad sportsmanship! I am proud of these guys for their efforts they are displaying. If they drop a pass or throw some interceptions, so be it. They are still trying their best and deserve our support. If the coaches have someone better, then put em in. It is so disappointing to see some drunk outspoken SMU students and fans complain about the QB and nobdy around stand up for their fellow student. Instead of laughing, why not get a group and escort them to the other side of the sttadium. It is time to stand up and fight! Anybody can buy a t-shirt and gimme cap and say they are a longhorn or Florida or TT fan just because they are winning. It takes a REAL fan to support your team at all times!

What is the cause of the current suck? And remember, don't be a negative nelly when you respond.

Hey Dooby- Miss the blog. Good to see you're still alive. Agree-Team looks better than last year so can't say all is negative.

JJ: Oh, SO, I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do.
SO: [shouts] You can act like a HC!, recruit better players, stop being the youngest team in FB and get me some JC depth, and I want real options at QB, you RnS guru!
[he slaps JJ]
SO: What's the matter with you. Is this how you turned out? I think the Hawaii surf has made your mind mush.

hey maybe we could have the greatest half-time show on earth....
us old geezers could suit-up for the Sunshiners vs the Doom Gloomers....
I wanna play line-backer and pray that Stallion, General Patton,
or JT come charging around the corner!

Yes we were still 1-11, but we played well at home more often than not last year. With 5 out of 8 at home, if the D keeps it up and the Offense can go from suck to just below average like last year we can still bowl.
Texas State 47-36 W (sorta)
TCU 48-7 (blowout)
Tulsa 37-31 L
UH 44-38 L
Memphis 31-26 L
Southern Miss 28-12 L

Count me out if you're going to hit like that. Although that would probably be at least as entertaining as the real game.

I like the horns well enough, but my wife the UT grad will really like that news. As for me, I'll keep hoping for an SMU win each week.
