really Methodist are pacifists who even voted against war in Iraq. Plus is so divisive of people from other faiths. We need to eliminate all signs of pacifist and divisive behavior and come up with something tougher. Even Southern is too regional-we want to be a National University. Let's Change our name to the Republic of Texas Oilers since that appears to be where we get all the money running the school. All we need is a Big Check.

But Methodists get to heaven first. The good book says that the "dead in Christ shall rise first".

Stallion has a point. Change it to Southern U, and we'll have a bigger band, better drum major and the law school will be easier to get into.**disclaimer: I can take that shot, as I have a friend who is an alum of SU law.

No Republic Of Texas. I want it-NOW. At the start of every game we can yell "Republic-CAN" Republic-CAN" Republic-CAN. We can get a national TV Contract with Fox News.

If the great Martha McCallum is somewhere on the pregame show and the great Meagan Kendall is doing sidelines, then I'm on board. If neither are involved, then forget it.

Plenty of hard right fundamentalist christian "evangelicals" who are Methodists. Witness the one book library man who likes to attend our team practices. Yes, some Methodists have a conscience and they reside in the School of Theology but they have little in common with shrub.
Duke? are you kidding? What do we have in common with Duke other than a crappy football team?

You may have a point, Stallion. The University of Hawaii didn't have Methodist in THEIR name.
If June wants it, June gets it.

Both schools were founded by what is now the United Methodist Church.

Yes, that is true. And actually I have known quite a few people who have gone to Duke. SMU and Duke both have significant Theology schools. However, Duke is a more academic school overall.
Maybe having a good basketball team and charging ridiculously high tuition has helped them move up in the world.

Duke, USC, SMU, who else?
By the way, I saw a survey of SMU student last year, that said that the largest student affiliation was Catholic, not Methodist.
