Fresh start

After watching a teammate get injured last week, two true freshmen — J.R. McConico and Keivon Gamble — find themselves suddenly thrust into the rotation of SMU cornerbacks.
One or both might play as soon as Saturday against East Carolina, and while they're young, Gamble and McConico — as well as teammates and coaches — seem convinced the pair is ready to contribute and has the ability to become significant additions to the SMU defense.

I think it was only ever intended to be situational.

They don't want to risk injury to Sanders by playing their best WR at DB..

If the injuries continue, look for other freshmen to have a chance in the secondary.
RS Ryan Smith is already there, with Jay Scott, Jeremy Gray and Robert Lloyd to contribute.
As noted by other players, the three true freshmen are outstanding. Gray is a corner and the rest are safeties.
Like to see them get a chance at some point.
Hopefully in a GOOD situation.

BTW - I really like the "Sellout for the Sellout" theme.
T-shirts, bumper stickets, billboards. Lotto tix?

They knew he was the best receiver when they were practicing him there during 2adays. I was just curious since it is something that was played up pretty big at the time.

I would have thought as WSU was moving down the field late in the game and our top CB was out injured might have been a good situation.

They knew that then and know that now and I am glad they are not playing him both ways. To my understanding they were just experimenting with it in the Spring. Nothing was ever set in stone.

What a great week to give these two true freshman some field time as Navy doesn't throw much so these guys can get the feel of the game and get the defensive schemes down as they will really be needed in the coming games with Houston and Tulsa as when they are thrown in those games, they will be tested for certain.
They sound so confident and its sure nice to have such speed here at the hilltop again.
