Pretty accurate from what I saw. And I predicted 13800 I think. Just surprised they didnt pad the numbers. And I'm pretty sure the Plano-Plano West game that I could partially see and hear from my upstairs balcony had more folks in attendance.
But...we're 3-2, 2-0 in conference, so hell yeah b!tches!

It was a pretty light crowd....disappointing but not unexpected.
It's going to take time and a lot of wins before we see anything different. Next week might be worse with TX/OU going on.

Wow, I guess I was thinking about those 20K projections too much.
I was at the game and I guess this number is close enough. However I wouldn't have been surprised if the total was closer to 10K.

Students were into it and the defense got the biggest cheers all night. Small but spirited crowd.

You know, I heard that from the players. That they really felt that this was one of the best crowds that they had experienced at SMU. I almost found it humorous, just because of the look of it, but as I was "working" I really didn't "feel" it trying to stay focused. However, I was in the crowd at TCU last week and was surprised at how well we traveled. Are we actually starting to believe?
A player gave a quote along the lines of "man, for the first time it felt like the crowd was with us every third down", I *did* notice an energy from field level, but I have to ask those of you in the stands.... how was it?

the open mike helped it sound loud-and quite frankly there were more students than I thought would be there and they were into the game but do we really want an open mike picking up crude comments from the fans. Isn't there a way to pick up the band without a running commentary by fans near the mike.

Give an example of these rude comments?

maybe its just me because I sit on the Top row near the speakers. I heard the symphony last week very clear when others didn't. Tonite I heard fans for a good 15 minutes claiming the refs were screwing us etc. They were picking up comments from fans sitting near the mike.

Sound must bouncing back off the windows of the boxes.
At 13,000 we maybe growing our "die hard" fan base--fall break, cool, misty weather. For years it was 6,500. I thought the fans were really loud and supportive. Of course their were some fantastic plays from a fan's perspective. (90+yard pass for td, blocked field goal, blocked punt and return, interception and return, two goal line stands, (unfortunately) kick off return, etc.).
The only real negative was seeing the Navy score...

I agree the crowd was pretty into it - it definitely helped that it was such a tight game throughout.
I didn't notice as many people leaving at the half, but maybe that has to do with the weather (lots didn't show up anyway) and the fact that only the "real fan" students were there.
It got nice and loud on 3rd downs and for big plays, and being in the front row I could tell the players were feeding off of it. Hopefully this is the very beginning of the long process of shifting fans' attitudes at the game...we need to keep the momentum going against Navy next week (I can dream) and definitely against Rice for homecoming.

The crowd was 'small but spirited'....isn't that what the SMU mascot........never mind.. It was a good crowd and will be better next time when the students and their friends and relatives can come again and we should be in the 20,000 range again.
The crowd has a different feel because we have hope finally to win games and we have something to cheer about especially with the defense so active and forcing turnovers. When we play some easier defensive teams ( Rice for one) then we really will have something to cheer about...on offense.

We start winning consistently & in the Top 20 again - year in & year out, the crowds will take care of themselves. But we'll be back there again. We've got to build a whole new fan base for all the years of neglect to our atheletic programs - 20-PLUS!!!
Not 3 to 5 years in a spurt & then we're gone like the 80's. It takes years to build a fan base but you have to market!!! One thing we've done a poor-poor job of doing! Even back then in the 80's.
