Thanks for posting this. Not that I fully trust Steve O., but if everything in this letter holds true then it sounds like entirely too much time was wasted on this board worrying about the future existence of Peruna...
I am curious if and when they determine any future involvement for these mustangs at future games. If June truly wants the team running out behind them then I have a hard time believing this will be a one game thing...

"How these animals will be involved in our future game presentation is yet to be determined."
--Steve Orsini
This does not include the statement that these Big Phony Ponyz will be making a one time appearance at Ford Stadium this Saturday but will not become a part of future SMU football presentation at Ford Stadium
Therefore, it says nothing. We don't want them, they aren't a part of our history or tradition and only one mascot Peruna- represents the SMU Mustangs.

So the fact that EXACTLY 92 years from the very day when SMU officially became the MUSTANGS, there is no historical value in hosting a "Salute to MUSTANGS" and having actual MUSTANGS at the game?
I know I'm in the minority on the board, but I think this event on Saturday is pretty cool. I enjoyed reading about the historical significance and doing this on Saturday has a little more meaning because of it.
I can't believe I'm actually defending Steve O. on this one and I'm still skeptical about the long term involvement of these new mustangs, but as far as Saturday's festivities I think it could be a pretty cool event.

This is spin. "It has not been determined" means "they will be at every game"

They aren't Mustangs...they have no balls and will be tamed....
My mascot is Peruna...

Couch'em...Classic response!
"Once proud wild Mustangs captured, castrated, and their spirit broken is a perfect metaphor for our program."

I've already said numerous times that if President Turner stated this was a one time event to honor "Mustangs" I would have absolutely no objection.

Coming from a current student, I think it's a great idea. Embrace change. We have had to change things with June Jones. If the next coach doesn't like it, we can do away with it. I'm not advocating that JJ has free reign over things, no, I'm just saying that perhaps it's time for some changes. We can always do a 'throw-back' Peruna somewhere in the future haha JUST KIDDING. I think it's fine to represent both ponies and mustangs - anyways, Peruna is like a flippin' Shetland Pony (but not) I think we can do better than that...That's just how I feel and I know people are going to bash me for it but personally, I think we could do a better job of embracing change. Or at least compromise. However, like @ponydawg says...Just win.
EDIT - I didn't know Peruna really was a Shetland Pony...I have a different image of Shetland ponies (with more furriness...go google Shetland Pony) but I guess I was correct. All those years in the stables did me some good apaprently, thanks Mom.

That is the whole point. The administration doesn't define how they will be used which indicates they don't want to say. How can they not know how they plan on using them? This has had to be in the works for some time. They could clear a lot up by telling us exactly how they plan on using them. Sounds like like Orsini isn't giving us the whole story.

Maybe the big horses are going to be in charge of game presentation. One will do the PA and the other will run the video board and sound. It would probably be an improvement.
