Bama: NCAA wrongly vacated 21 wins

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama contends the NCAA wrongly forced the football program to vacate 21 wins.

The university, in a rebuttal released Tuesday, says the victories should be restored. It says the NCAA infractions committee, among other things, improperly cited the school's repeat violator status as a factor in imposing the penalty.

Alabama's rebuttal said the committee cited the school's "abysmal infractions track record" and described that record as "the driving force behind" the penalty.

The university said the committee ignored bylaws and precedents in addressing repeat violator penalties.

The case that led to the penalty involved 201 athletes in 16 sports obtaining textbooks they weren't entitled to under their scholarships.

If pardoned for the DP...

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Oct 13, 2009 1:10 pm

If the NCAA rescinded the SMU DP, they could not undo the damage created by the dissolution of the SWC which is the real cause of our demise in football. We were coming back up until 1995, then the bottom droped out. How well we remember that the WAC was supposed to let SMU compete with schools on our level. Then the BCS cartel locked out the WAC, C-USA, and what became the MWC. Even if we had not received the DP, do you suppose SMU would have been invited to join the Big 12? The state schools left us because we don't sell tickets. Business rules and the rest of us drool. If the JJ experiment fails, we just might drop football. Watch and see, sports fans, watch and see.

With no DP SMU, TCU, Rice and Houston would have been included in a Big 16.

they were. It was called the WAC. Just didnt include all the state schools & Baylor.
I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.

Ann Richards and one Mr. Teaff had a bit to do with the construction of the Big 12, and the inclusion of Baylor.

I'd say Ms. Richards had a lot more to do with it than Mr. Teaff, unless you count his pull with her.

I know it's all sorts of bad karma, but yes, I would enjoy it tremendously if a big state school that cheats like hell (yes, I'm looking at YOU Oklahoma State and Alabama) got the DP. But that would cost the NCAA money, and so it won't happen. Ever.
