NAVY, ALREADY...

Postby peruna81 » Tue Oct 13, 2009 5:18 pm

Now that we have all fixed the mascot issue  , does anyone here have any EXPECTATIONS for the football game ( with the nod to jtstang ) ?

What is the over/under for the number of passes Navy will throw ?

There was more passing yardage than I thought as 34% of their yards were gained in the air with the average yardage per catch at 19 yards and if you take out the measly 4 passes against Rice last week they have an even higher % than thought. I don't know their tendency to throw with long third down yardage needed or do they throw early and rely on pounding late to gain for the first down..I only saw parts of the Rice game....anyone know?

Whole point of the over/under pass is whether SMU can get the ball out of the hands of the Navy QB...last time he ran at will, as did the rest of the backfield. After the TCU and ECU games, I am curious about the expectation of the defense stopping the run option with some degree of regularity...I think then and only then does Navy pass.

I really think with the new defense and the athletes we have that run to the ball and swarm like they have been doing THIS year as opposed to last year ,that we will see a bigger success in attacking their QB as he is so talented at the option. The DL is bigger and faster this year and i saw on another post that with our new 3-4 defense and we bring the LB's to the D-ends and also mix with attacking the gaps with the LBs we should pressure Navy's QB more effectively than we have.
Over/under on passes...........9.

I'm worried about D Line depth for this game. Navy could really wear us down as the game goes on.

What was so frustrating last year (besides the deluge), was that everyone in the stands knew what was coming on every play. Hopefully we're better prepared to load the box. I'd be happy to leave our DBs out there a bit at the start of the game to see how they handle it. DBs have played great so far this year IMO so lets make Navy challenge them.

I think this will be the worst beating we receive all year. (TCU's score looked worse than the game really was)

Oh ye of little faith...of course you could be right, but for the sake of the players think positive thoughts. 8)

So did all of the coaches on the field and in the press box. the option is never easy to defend See Ohio State, and every team nebraska played in the 1990's and early 2000's (eric crouch was awesome)

I'd say dobbs throws between 7 and 10 times on saturday partly because the playing conditions are supposed to be much nicer this year. I remember watching navy earlier this year and hearing that dobbs is one of the best passing qbs navy has had in the past few years for dont be suprised if they air it out a little more which to navy is about 10 times a game.

Wondering the same thing. With no games on TV, haven't gotten to see us play yet this year, but I have gathered from watching the Gamecast that our Defense is improved some--but can we defend the option? How do the DE's and corners look so far? Are they going to be able to contain these guys at all?

Ahhh...the $64,000 question. The ECU O-line was big, but our defense did pretty well against them in tight situations. Not sure how the Navy O-line stacks up, but all grit no quit pretty well describes our defense...so this will be a very good test for our defense. This version of the defense has not run up against an offensive scheme like Navy's so far this year so the answer to your question will be given Saturday night.

Why would we talk about our 3-2 Mustangs? The game is still three days away, let's keep starting bogus threads on horse crap.
