In our hands ...

As tough as that loss was on Saturday, the reality is that it was a non-conference game.

We are 2-0 in league play and all SMU'ers know that UH and Tulsa are not unbeatable (see last season). So, that said, we hold our fate in our hands. And, while everyone keeps talking about the bowl goal, the reality is that we are still in the hunt for the division title.

And, after this two-game road stretch, the schedule lightens significantly. Is it not realistic to shoot for a division title? Is that being too greedy? Of course, we won't win any game unless the offense gets it in gear, but you have to think that's only a matter of time.

The biggest worry is that the team will go in the tank this week at UH, after the tough Navy loss. But, seeing this club develop, and with this staff, you'd think that would be unlikely. And, teams that play close games tend to play more close games.

So, get on I-45 in front of some CBS College Sports and see for yourself.

No, it's not too greedy to go for the division crown. I think that logically, it's a year away, but by all means, that should be our goal. Even if we lose to Houston (which I'm not sure we will), you're right about the schedule lightening up considerably. There's nobody left on the schedule who we should look at and say "oh, yeah, they're going to kill us." We can hang with anyone left on the schedule. We could lose to any of them, or we could beat any of them. I'm going to get to every game I can.

We need a lot of 6-6 teams to get to a bowl. Going to assume that UH and TU get there without problem and that Army does not screw us.

SMU W Rice, UTEP, Tulane L Marshal, Hou, TU 6-6

USM W Tulane, Marshal L Hou UT, ECU 6-6

UCF W Rice, Marshal, Tulane L TX, Hou, UAB 6-6

Marshal W UAB, SMU L USM, UTEP, UCF 6-6

ECU W MEM, UAB, USM L VT, TU, 7-5

Soooo..... Here we go.
