Was the first half of the CFB season a dud?

Postby George S. Patton » Wed Oct 21, 2009 3:00 pm

Ivan Maisel wants to know and hopes a better second half looms. Personally, I think the season has been a bit of a yawner. Not very good quarterback play from the names you expect. Defenses have been very good. Makes me think that we are so driven to see oodles of TDs and yards we forget how important having a great defense is.

Read and critique.

Regarding the national title game, Texas will likely be there because of their weak schedule.

I was at the LSU-Florida game and it was an awesome spectacle. The energy, all day of the game, was at a high pitch. Very, very special and I can understand why so many hold the SEC in high regard.

However, it is likely to be bama's year. They don't have to play Florida or Georgia in the regular season. And while Georgia has lost a few, they are still a very physical team and a game you must play well to win.

As most expect, the winner of bama and Florida will roll over Texas/Iowa/Oregon.

Particularly Texas. You can't be one dimensional against bama/Florida and stay in the game.

I don't think the season has been a yawner. Maybe a little overexposed.

Like Obama.

Meaningful games are on the horizon.

It would be great if the start of the second half of the season included an SMU win over Houston.

I don't think UT is likely to beat Florida but I also don't think Florida or Alabama are likely to roll over Texas. One dimensional-that pretty well describes the SEC this year and most SEC games. Texas I believe is leading the country in Run Defense-in essence it is playing like it is an SEC team. I have no problem with Alabama being ranked over Texas right now but Alabama has trouble rolling over mid SEC teams. Texas Defense will keep it in just about any game but I agree that Texas has to much improve their running game to have a chance. I think Texas would beat Alabama and I think it would be an SEC like defensive struggle. I mean Alabama beat South Carolina 20-6 and 22 points against Ole Miss, 40 against Florida International and all of a sudden they are world beaters? I don't think so. I much prefer Colt McCoy to win a big one as opposed to Greg McElroy who quite frankly is struggling right now. Texas offense is not executing like it can-but would you believe me if I told you they were No. 1 in the Country in Scoring Offense so they are not incapable and Mack Brown doesn't run scores up like some programs we know. If Florida with Tebow gets their act together they probably win another championship. Too much is made by week to week victories. A big conference win is a win. Winning 19 of 20 games with the only loss on the last play hardly suggests that UT would get rolled by anyone.
