SMU-Tulsa To Air On CW 33
Nine of 12 SMU Games Televised In 2009

Oct. 21, 2009

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Athletic Department and CW 33 today announced an agreement to produce and broadcast the SMU at Tulsa football game on Oct. 31st. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with broadcasting legends Brad Sham and Allen Stone calling the action.

With the addition of this game to the slate, nine of SMU's 12 regular-season games are being televised in 2009. SMU's game at Houston this weekend will air nationally on CBS College Sports and all six Mustang home football games are being televised by Time-Warner Metro Sports. Earlier this season, the State Farm DFW Duel - Battle for the Iron Skillet game against TCU was televised on The Mtn.

"We know there is a growing appetite for Mustang football and we're happy to partner with CW 33 to provide this game for our fans in the Metroplex," said SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini.

"We're proud to work with a program on the rise like SMU," said Joe Young, Vice President and General Manager of CW 33, "We're looking forward to bringing our viewers the excitement of the only NCAA Division I program in Dallas."

KDAF-TV, CW 33 broadcasts to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the fifth largest media market in the United States with over 2.4 million households, and over 6.5 million people.

All SMU football games are also available on the Mustang Radio Network, which includes the flagship KTCK 1310 AM in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and through Mustang All-Access at SMUMustangs.com.

Hopefully those of us that do not live in the Metroplex will be able to find the game on satillite or some other outlet.

This makes me extremely happy!!

After years of feeling like a second-class fan having to listen to the Mustang Radio Network on that chump AM station that doesn't even broadcast with enough juice to make it to McKinney, we're finally going to be on 'regular' TV.

Steve-O: Let's move all our broadcasts from those obscure Dish-only stations to a regular broadcast station that fans from all over the Metroplex can enjoy. Who knows, with our improved team on broadcast TV, we might even be able to inspire a new generation of PonyFans.

Leave it to WB 33 to do something more progressive than the worn out crime dramas and reality shows on the other networks! I hope you guys get favorable ratings.

Those obscure dish-only networks reach the entire country. Why would you ask to limit our exposure to just the Dallas area where people should be attending the games in person anyway? Please do not stop those that cannot not travel to the games from being able to see them.

AMEN. Not only good for those of us that do not live in DFW area, but more exposure means more possible recruits to see the program.

Those obscure dish-only networks have pathetic ratings. Further, they provide minimal promotion to a largely disinterested national audience.

By contrast, if you watch WB 33 for an evening, you'll see the SMU/Tulsa game being promoted a dozen times in our home market.

So what makes more sense, a kid in Wyoming possibly stumbling across and SMU game while he's channel surfing through a couple hundred channels, or a local kid seeing our game being promoted a couple dozen times on a local over-the-air broadcast that everyone can see?

Kudos again to WB33 who's pimping the hell out of this game. Seriously, watch any hour-long program, and you'll see SMU/Tulsa at least a couple of times.

But the point is, I cannot watch WB 33 for an evening because I do not live in the Dallas area. Nor does about 297,000,000 of our nation's population. And that "obscure" network also promotes the games.

Here is an idea. Try to get wb-33 on the internet.
Or thry channelsurfing.net.

I do like the local exposure and I know it will help build a fan base over time.

Call wb-33 KDFW and ask them how to get the game!

I worry about CW 33's ability to reach the local market if, after three years of being branded as CW 33 (due to WB network's name change to CW), people still refer to them as WB 33.

I'm just glad they're finally getting an out-of-town game on TV. It's bad enough that so many of our fans leave home games early, but surely there are some who just stay home to watch from the couch, too.
