UH Coach calls SMU Cheaters

Postby Blvd.Fan » Thu Oct 22, 2009 5:42 pm

Tyron Carrier said in the Houston Chronicle today that SMU cheated in last years game by falling out. "They did the fallout drill", Carrier said. I guess when they felt like we were wearing them down, one guy would get hurt, go out a play, come back in. It gets frustrating. Asked if he's found an antidote to the stalling tactics, Co-Defensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen laughed. "There's nothing we can do about that, we view it as cheating. If guys are falling out because they're truly tired, that's, kind of what our plan is. The guys who cheat are the ones who tell thier guys to just lay there when they're not actually hurting."

When anyone connected with the University of Houston wants to discuss anything considered low class or undignified, that person doesn't need to do anything more than to look in the mirror.

The University of Houston remains irrelevant.

Did anyone notice Keenum pointing at our player that went down late in the game? He was going nuts and his players had to hold him back. He then started wave his hands to get the crowd to cheer while our player was still down. Classless.

Yes, I noticed that too. Pretty shabby. Too bad sportsmanship is so sorely lacking in a lot of schools. It starts with the coaching. Just contrast that display with the conduct of the Navy coaches and players.

Keenan probably did that because it was about the 3rd or 4th time it happened during the game. To be quite honest I was kind of wondering about it myself.

You are calling Case and Tyron classless? Really? They are two outstanding student athletes.

The reason everyone was so upset is the players were faking injuries to stop our rhythm last season and to be able to make substitutions against our no-huddle offense. it nis not classless to point this out to the refs and make them aware of this. It was so obvious last season that coach would point his fingers down and a defensive player would go to the ground. The player would receive no treatment on the field and would run off only come right back in the next play. This was a fact folks. if you want to be upset then be upset at June jones, not those who pointed it out. The kid on the goalline huddle mysteriously fell to the ground after walking the field after looking at the sideline.

Good luck the rest of the season, especially against UTEP and just to note I do not hate SMU. I much prefer you guys over the toads up the road.

SMU was blatantly doing this in both 2007 and 2008, too. Other teams have started doing this against UH's fast strike offense as well, but SMU was the first to pull this stunt. Is it really that shocking that UH called them on it?

Houston also remembers the SMU players stomping on the UH logo at midfield in 2007, amongst other poor behavior. Don't pretend to be shocked by your team's lack of class.

Note this article referencing the same behavior by Dre Bly of the Denver Broncos against Favre and the Jets last year in the NFL. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/87691-the-denver-broncos-should-be-fined-for-faking-injuries-against-the-new-york-jets I think it pretty well expresses the universe's opinion of such behavior.

Tell your players to stop falling down whenever your defense is tired, or out of position, or after the other team's offense has made a big play. It would help to at least gain some respect as men.
