Padron looked pretty good for the first game he has played

Postby SMU 86 » Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:23 pm

He 8-11 in the 2nd half with no INT's. I am encouraged by that. We can beat Tulsa.

Needs to learn to throw the ball away. He took several sacks where he should of just dumped the ball. Without those sacks, his rushing stats probably look better.

Agreed. Either pull it down on those plays and try to at least get positive yardage, or throw it away. Having said that, I was glad to see him get some reps.

What game were you guys watching? He looked horrible. Couldn't make one decision. Danced around then ran or dumped it off. This offense is all about getting rid of the ball quickly. That didn't happen. Every throw he completed was a screen. The long pass for the td should have been picked. Completely under thrown. If Bo doesn't come back, we win one more game.

He did pretty good tonight. I am afraid after Tulsa has a week to prepare for SMU and Kyle, Tulsa will expose him for what he is, a freshman who has played barely one half of a college football game. Hope I am wrong.

Let's get Kyle some reps in practice and see what happens. I also noticed how Kyle went through his progression quite well. I think we will be fine.

Kyle was 11-16 141 yards and 1 TD with 0 INT's for the entire game. Not bad for someone that has been getting limited reps in practice.

I didn't get to watch this one, but at least there were no INTs. Score could have been a lot worse, I suppose. The 0-12 on 3rd and 4th down conversions is a very telling stat.

KYle looked really solid, plus he has mobility and size. Teach him to get it out quicker and not take the sack, and there's your QB

I agree he looked pretty good for a freshman entering his first game unexpectedly, but it is not the easiest thing in the world to teach him to get it out quicker. It is not like they have just not gotten around to covering "make the right decision quick" in practice. It takes time to learn the system enough to make the reads fast enough.

If Houston had blitzed BLM like they did Padron he would have been sacked a lot since he can't move at all. The 2 kids showed some savvy back there that BLM doesn't bring to the table. Yes Padron tried to make some plays when he had little chance but we were behind and he had to take some chances. Smith and Padron's qb IQ looked higher than BLM to me. Mitchell got hurt by running around in his endzone like he had all the time in the world when he should have gotten rid of the ball. Not a very good decision, was it.

does anyone remember the quantum leap that Willis made between the NTCC and SHSU games in '06? We're still waiting for that out of BLM.

Padron did not look great, but he showed some things that we are still waiting to see from BLM, a year and a half in. Padron had good scrambling ability, and knew how to find his outlet target if the downfield recievers were covered. The bad parts were that he didn't know when to throw the ball away and his accuracy on medium and long passes was not good. Hopefully now he realizes that defenses are faster than they were in high school and he'll be a little quicker getting rid of the ball instead of taking sacks next time.

Overall, I was impressed with both Padron and Smith - the offense seemed to be more alive under both of them.
