Drops

Postby RE Tycoon » Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:22 am

I was imbibing during the game, so I hope I'm not exaggerating this point (I'm going to re-watch the game in a bit to verify), but what was with all the drops!?! I still don't think we win if we make those catches, but at least it's a game.

In the swagger thread it was covered that Al has not improved, but the most disturbing thing to me about him is his inability to make the wide open catch when he has a clear path to six points. This was his problem as a frosh and seems to have carried over this year. It wasn't just Al last night, even our typically sure handed WR's were dropping passes (T-Wilk, ES, DJ). I did like seeing Haynes out there.

Props to Braden Smith. I haven't been his biggest fan, but he had some good runs and delivered some hits on defenders which is fun to see.

This team is not a bowl team until we start converting on 3rd down, that stat is down right embarrassing.

The drops were killers. The wierd thing I noticed was that Bo seemed to suffer from the recievers dropping more of his passes than those from Padron. Dont know if there is something to that or just a coincidence.

It's telling that Wilkerson (who catches maybe 2 out of 3) counts as one of our more sure-handed guys.

It seems like Haynes does something positive every time he's out there. Maybe he's too slow to be a regular but I like him.

Watching the replay right now and the drops are just unbelievable. Defense is playing great again. It's only 7-0 right now and we have already dropped at least 2 breakaway TD's...really frustrating.

he's really slow, but proved effective. Looks like a safety valve, h-back type

You are right Tycoon. The "run and drop" offense is killing us. Bradley Haynes looked good on his few opportunities last night but the drops and loafing of the other receivers is a direct reflection on the coaching. I have seeen offensive teams with receivers who couldn't catch very well, but they played in running offenses like the wishbone and were primarily blockers. I have never seen an offensive passing team play so many receivers with such bad hands and they only seem to get worse as the season progresses. Isn't there at least one or two guys who don't drop passes on the team. Give me the backups or scout team guys. I want guys in there who hustle and go all out and can catch at the receiver position. The rest of the positions on the team have found this winning formula(good coaching and great effort) and are performing good enough to win.

Scout teamers Jay Scott and Robert Lloyd are great everyday. Great hands on both and can play any skill spots. Put them on the special teams NOW. They won't miss and they won't hold.

Glad JJ dressed out Scott for the game in his hometown. Nice and classy gesture on his part. He will get some serious time next year.

exactly because he has such great potential why would you waste a redshirt year to play special teams in Games 7-12? We've got plenty of safeties this year. Build the foundation of the program by redshirting-sometimes I want to beat my head against the wall when you guys keep wanting to waste redshirt years. .

watching the replay-SMU wasn't the only team to drop balls. I'm counting about 3 Houston throws that might have been TDs or big plays. Dugat dropped one that would have gone 85. Just saw the one that got bobbled back and forth between 3-4 players-initially hit the UH guy in the helmet-right through his hands.

You don't really think a receiver is running down the field with the ball in the air consciously thinking "I dont think I'll catch this one because of my feeling towards the guy who passed it."

Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens drop tons of balls. We just had a bad day. It happens. Frustrating.

Haynes ran a 4.5 in his junior in high school. Whats his 40 time? I dont think he lost a step since high school.

Wilkerson's two drops were awful. Both were right in his hands and in stride. Looked like he might be afraid of taking a hit and short armed them.

Last year he had problems in route running. It could be that but he not one of our faster wr's either. He is a big physical wr though.
