Grading positions - midseason

Postby Hoop Fan » Sun Oct 25, 2009 7:54 pm

i think there was a pre-season grading of positions that someone did that was pretty good (Stallion perhaps?) How would you all grade the positions now that we are past the mid point of the year. My stab at it:

QB: C- My take on Bo is he has played well in about one out of every four quarters. Not a good ratio.

WRs: C+ Still a talented postion, but too many drops last night for sure. I just don't sense the trust and connection that is needed between QB and wideouts.

RB: B+ Shawnbrey has been every bit what I hoped for. Line is tough for a young guy.

OL: B- Not quite good enough in run blocking to get a higher mark, but they have protected Bo very well for the most part.

Offense overall: C We are a passing program and the passing game is not flourishing or dependable right now.

LBs: B- Kennemers play and leadership has been big upgrade this year.

DL: B Pretty impressed with this group and the pressure they are getting. Granted i might be grading on a curve here.

DBs: B Same as above. Battling and fighting for the ball alot better.

Defense overall: B This is a decent CUSA defense if we don't give away points on turnovers and special teams.
Special Teams: C Syzmanksi has really struggled lately. Return game is not very explosive and coverage team is just ok. Hunts blocked kicks might bump the overall grade up to C+ though.

I think the LBs deserve a better grade(B or B+). Kennemer has been a stud this year, the freshmen have stepped in and done a nice job, and Fleps has played really well the past 3-4 weeks.

Defense is definitely overall around a B or B+. If we didn't improve on D this year, this season would be FAR more miserable.

Generally agree with you. What a difference a year makes - can you imagine thinking last year that the LB's would be among the highest ranked groups a year later?

McNeil might be the only part of our team you could even think about giving an a- to. Almost all good news has been from transfers - hope we are keeping those lines open.

Hate to rain on the rating parade but statistics don't always lie.

Basically our O is a "D" though rushing I would give a D+ and Shawnbrey a B+ if we are grading vs. D1 and not CUSA.

OL has allowed numerous sacks, Navy was an exception. D
QB and WR, divide the credit as you like D

Defense overall is D though that is a big step up from last years E to E-
Pass defense C but credit for takeaways has to be given to the DBs B
Rush D is D but tackles for loss is C- and sacks D+

I have a hard time because the defense seems to be improving thru the year and I look forward to that continuing. The D line is improving, LBs are solid, DBs have been solid though with fewer picks than at the start.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!
