Inspired v. Uninspired Football

Postby GeorgiaMustang » Wed Oct 28, 2009 12:02 am

Our defense is playing inspired football. Our offense is not. Period.

While our defense still makes mistakes, it has had the football inspiration to go out tere and play hard nosed, knock em around defensive football.

Our offense, on the other hand, seems to walk with a swagger that is nice to see in a prolific offense. I am not dissapointed to see the swagger. I am disappointed to see the swagger when we haven't earned it. Dropped passes, bad routes, and dumb penalties are all signs of uninspired football. We need a spark to get things rolling. If that happens this week, watch out. Much of that, I feel, falls on the senior leadership and the coaches. Sanders has to start making big plays if his mouth is going to run 90 miles a minute. We are on the brink of becoming a solid team. We just need to finish the drill.

The best coach I have ever known made this statement at half time of our state championship game, "Gentlemen, finish your masterpiece. You have worked all season to get to this point and have done so in an amazing way. Finish Your Masterpiece! Put your name on the records....Let's get to it." While I am not saying that this season has been your normal masterpiece, a bowl game for SMU would be. Our boys have the chance to finish things like they should be, and I hope they take the opportunity to announce SMU's reclaimed status as a football program.

I apologize for my ramblings, but i felt I needed to vent something after having witnessed losses that should have been turned by leadership.

Let's play inspired football men! Go Ponies

Special teams has been a little up and down at times as well, I believe we will improve in all areas.

I disagree that we aren't playing inspired ball on offense. We may not have executed at the level we need to, but we are playing hard. We've had some meltdowns late in games but again, this is still a very young team that is trying to find its way. We will. Have faith.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I have no problem with the effort displayed on the field.
Mistakes yes, effort, no.

I think the problem with the offence is they are playing too hard. To up tight. Give BLM a Valium. Calm down a bit. I think he feels pressure from everyone. He probably should, but the receivers need to calm down as well.

June often referenced the need for the kids to be unafraid of making mistakes, like they sometimes became puppyish with their fear of a coach coming down on them.

Did that leash grow a little too much, too fast?

Glad to see another person from AZ on this board. I grew up in Tempe, went to Tempe High School, want ASU to do well, but want SMU to do better. I also wish people from Texas would get the fact that SMU is a national university. I am moving down to Tucson, way to hot in Phx. Glad to see you here. There are a couple of Arizona fans on this board.
