The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Wow is this weighted on the Ugly side...

The Good - 10 punts and none blocked and for a 37 yard average. Isn't 10 punts and SMU record, though a dubious one? Though Rutledge returned one KO for only 8 yards his rep caused them to kick away and out of bounds on more than one occasion. Run defense was good (you hear that Rice) but what does that mean when you can not stop the pass? KK had essentially 5 ypc.

The Bad - -1 turnover margin and that was and int. off the heel of the center so the offense was decent in not turning it over (too bad this wasn't UTEP or Nevada or Baylor) but the defense did not force a single TO.

The Ugly - Actually the deficiencies were well defined. QB, missing open receivers and losing 43 yards. After teasing us in the 2nd half of last weeks game (Bartel had a pass eff. of 151.16) we got nothing out of QB (rating of 62.9). And the pass defense could not stop a watch (Dinwiddie had a rating of 203.4, if you can imagine that.)

Actually, the record is 13 punts in 1999 against Arkansas. I think it was Collin Vadheim, if memory serves correctly.

I can live with one turnover -- as long as we generate a lot on defense!

BEAT Tulsa!

OK, most punts this season anyway.

There was a low snap in the 2nd qtr. and it looked like they got a hand on the punt. It only traveled about 20 yds spinning sideways. Does that not count? I would hate to break our rhythm.

Right, to even list a 37 yard average as good is pushing it but compared to the other disasters in our last game this was a bit tongue in cheek acknowledgement.
