Baylor "rebuilding project" was essentially based one outstanding talent. But when he got hurt the program is non-competitive because they don't compete well with any other team in their Division for talent. Just like Rice's "rebuilding project" was based on 3 of the best players to ever play at Rice. They're going from 10 wins to ZERO wins in one year. TCU on the other hand has consistently over a 10 year period recruited BCS caliber prospects and outrecruited just about all of their opponents just about every year. They have overcome coaching changes, graduations and conference realignment and maintained a very high level of performance. That is really what building a quality program is about

didnt Ganaway follow Briles to Baylor as well?

I wonder if Briles regrets leaving his gig at Houston.

I am not sure Froggies "recruited BCS caliber prospects", they seem to get the kid that flies under the radar, changes their position from HS to better fit their need and then does a helluva job with the kid once they buy into their program...plus GDP is one heck of a defensive god

well I guess you don't follow recruiting much then. That "TCU finds players from the pumpkin patch" fairy-tale is the just a bunch of BS. Now they may find some players that SOME BCS level schools sometimes overlooked but the fact is they have consistently outrecruited 85- 90% of the programs on their schedule. Not disputing the statement that Patterson is great talent evaluator or defensive coach.

But most of their schedule is not BCS..as your earlier statement referred to on their recruiing BCS kids

Almost all of their recruits usually from 2/3rds to 3/4th have multiple BCS offers and many have a long list of BCS offers. UT and OU can't sign every one. If you calculated their recruiting rankings over a 12 year period starting with arrival of Franchione TCU unquestionably would be in the top 2-3 of all non-BCS schools-since that is who they play on their schedule they win a helluva a lot of games.

speaking of TCU. My cousin said he was hunting in kansas recently and ate at a restaurant in a tiny town . turns out the owner is Pattersons brother and there was TCU stuff everywhere. Thought that was random.
