SMU football fans. We're winning. Time to panic!

It's been 20 years of such conditional losing thinking that the moment the season starts to look like it's got a little something, everybody starts drawing up every worst-case scenario possible.

What if we lose to Rice?
Rice is confident?
My god, there's no one left on the offensive line?
We shouldn't talk bowl because it will ruin what we're doing.

The Hilltop -- otherwise known in November at Panic City!!

Where's the Kevin Bacon slide from Animal House?

so on the other thread you didnt provide one example of someone panicking, and that leads you to start a brand new thread on the same topic?

Is there anything you don't [deleted] about?

The thread that Rice is confident was based upon quotes from a Rice player and head coach, as relayed to a reporter in the Houston Chronicle in an article about Rice's preparation for the SMU football team. That post simply relayed information about our next opponent, as so many others here link to newspapers and other sources. "Panic" was not mentioned or suggested in the original post.

I did suggest we not discuss the prospect of rejecting bowls, or even talking about bowls so much because of our past history, in another post. Panic was not mentioned. I'd love it if we won out and I hope we do. Indeed, my comment was not about "panic" but about caution. I'm just not a big believer of contemplating the possibility of rejecting things that we do not have (a bowl invitation), or even discussing the possibility of what bowl we should go to before we are close to eligibility for an invitation.

I agree with you that this season is "[starting] to look like it's got a little something." I hope it has more than a little something starting. Given our past, including a bowl eligible 6 win season a couple of years ago where no bowl invitation was forthcoming and Rice was provided such an invitation, it was my suggestion to be guarded in our optimism. Similar to qualifying this season as having a "little something."

To be clear, I hope we win out and I hope we go to a bowl. No panic. Beat Rice. Go team. Pony up.

At the time I write this the closest predicted score on the Rice game prediction thread is SMU 34, Rice 31. Wow, total panic.

I'll admit I'm a bit concerned about the offensive line going into this game, but if we take care of the football and play our style of defense we should be OK. It does have the element of Rice wanting to throw everything and the kitchen sink at us to ruin our season which can be troubling. All things considered we ought to win this game by a few TD's.

Unlike every other sport, you better have your starters and numerous backups ready to play. With the violent hits and ACL's popping in non-contact drills even, every player is just a dislocated shoulder or torn acl away. And now they have to contend with the flu, etc. That is one of the traits of THIS SMU team. Guys step up. Can't believe Baylor let a season go down the drain when their great soph qb and leader went down. Someone will step up on the offensive line! Go Mustangs!

I have noticed the ugly side, slowly rearing it's head too. George, are you bipolar?

Many people on this board are sheeple to the athletic department and are too consumed with sucking up to each other to be their "friend". I don't work that way.

I say what I believe. And if you like it and agree with it, thanks. And if you don't, not my problem!

I love SMU and want us to be successful in everything we do. But I call BS when I believe there is BS. And that's been my style ever since I got on this board -- under the first assumed name.

Bye. I'm going to watch some high school football.

What in the world does any of that have to do with your imagined panic sitings?
