Game Presentation and PA announcer pretty good

Postby George S. Patton » Sun Nov 08, 2009 9:16 am

He's getting better, I'm fine with the music, scores and stats are better and more frequent. Not perfect but come a long way from the opener.

Agree, they are moving in the right direction. Someone finally got the message that if you either can't afford or don't know how to put on a high powered gamdeday presentation, don't half [deleted] it, just go with "simple is better"...play a bit of music, just announce the action, let the game be the focus.

I did get a bit annoyed with a "ANOTHER OWL THIRD DOWN" only because everytime he said that, seemed like they picked it up.

Are you kidding? "Monsters of the Hilltop" First we add two new horses and now I guess we are just going to change the mascot entirely. Ridiculous.

I particularly liked "the pass is no good!" - what's the deal with the announcement of the starting line ups? I know most folks are still on the boulevard, but the announcer sounded like he was doing the NBA finals - I wish they had a concession for "guaranteed-silence" ear plugs for our home games. This guy is getting very "Bill Melton" on us.

Actually I noticed the geldings in the corner befroe halftime, but then not after halftime. Perhaps they saw what a failed idea it was.

They were still there...just backed up further towards the ramp.

i've been unsure about the band music being piped in....to me last night it didn't work very well because instead of enjoying the music my mind seems to focus on the slight difference in timing between what the band is playing and the music piped in through the speakers....not sure if this can be corrected....if it can't....they need to drop the piped in stuff

Ever hear the expression about "dead horses"? I think we have discussed this enough. I thought the announcer was the best we've had. Yeah, just a little humor, the "Terminator", I thought it was funny.
I still miss the old announcer at the Cotton Bowl, expecially his dramatic announcements of "scores from other games" update...now from Austin...."Baylor 22.....Texas 20", loud roar from the crowd, etc. The electonic screen just doen't make it.

At UT games, they get a big rise out of the crowd by announcing the score from some school called Slippery Rock every Saturday. No clue how that got started.

I agree, announce out-of-town scores over the PA.

Totally agree....they really should do that....sometimes you miss other scores
if you happen to not be looking at the scoreboard....why not throw in a few scores
via the announcer?

I did notice they showed other scores of up to 8 games. Is there any reason we cannot get someone to show scores from around the nation? This is so lame. It is not a secret that other games are being played. I cannot get a signal inside the stadium on my iphone so the only way to get scores is from the pressbox but apparently it is a very difficult thing to do.

It was annoying that they just showed the same few games without even showing the Navy/ND or the Stanford/Oregon scores which may have got a reaction from the crowd and giving the scores over the PA would be cool as well, especially some games that may be considered upsets.

I'm not sure where they get their game up date information from, but I was at TCU's homecoming game and noticed that their posting of game up dates was pretty random and did not include SMU's win over Tulsa. Actually our updates were at least pretty relevant to the interest of the crowd in general...and included TCU's score.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
