So let's talk about UTEP

Postby SMU Hockey 2010 » Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:07 am

Eyes forward, but not too far forward. This is the next hurdle for us to jump.

What are UTEP's strengths? Weaknesses? How do we match up?

I haven't followed them much, I only know they handled UH. Who's got the book on them?
We've never lost the tailgate.

Statistically, at this point, poor defense but better than Rice. Slightly above average offense but much better than Rice. So unless we fix some things and do better than last weekend, it will be really dicey.

Need to play more like we did vs. Tulsa.

RB had about 340 yards Total Offense from scrimmage yesterday-240 rushing 104 receiving. He now has multiple 200 yards rushing games. 4th in country in rushing. Extremely fast-4th in 5A 100 yard dash in Texas as a Senior.

Strength: Buckram.
Strength: Vittatoe if he gets time.
Strength: They'll bring a lot of fans. Plus a band. Plus the gold diggers.
**Question: anyone know if the post-UH nosedive has resulted in the program not traveling the band so as to save $$ for Price's replacement?

They didn't bring a band in 2007

I know. But someone said earlier they thought they were coming this time.

2005 was a good game, and the last time I remember them bringing them. I remember a DD Lee interception...and wasnt that the game of the Bobby Chase catch, bobble, fumble, then touchdown?

When I watched them against Tulsa on TV, they looked solid on both sides of the ball. Kinda streaky at times. Vittatore made some good plays. Once again, this is a team with nothing to lose and everything to gain. And they have our number by and large as well. We need a solid game on both sides of the ball and good special teams play. And we need to eliminate stupid mistakes like penalties. 3rd down conversions have improved the last two weeks but not enough to put sufficient pressure on the opponent's offense.

2005 was that the year UTEP rolled in and SMU was to lay down so they could make it to the ship?
UCF played Tulsa rather than UTEP and lost to them in Orlando.
BTW that was my first game at Ford
