Are the students too high class to come to the game??It seems like the students feel they are too good to come to the games. And when thEy do come they leave at halftime to go party. Seems like the frats and sororities are in control of this school!!!!!
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??some things will never change it seems. at least we had an excuse when we were losing, but when the team is producing on the field there is NO excuse for poor attendance.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??doesn't help that most students were enrolled knowing smu would be bad forever and weren't smu fans. gotta think that's going to change to some extent. if not, just use our C-130's Gatlin gun to spray the Vard 5 mins before each game
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??We may be small in numbers but quite a few of us stayed the entire game and some left with horse throats

Roasted or Barbaqued? Seems a bit canabalistic. -CoS
Re: Our the students too high class to come to the game??They certainly believe they are. Humorous how the fraternities, which claim to be filled with bold men, are more concerned with the winner of costume jewelery than they are with the glory of sport.
In the dark years of SMU football, these rival factions arose to fill the void of spirit. Now that football has returned, rest assured that they will not relinquish their hold on the student body without considerable force. Only a fool would give his power away, and in maintaining that they are above football, the fraternities will not support it until absolutely necessary. If they did otherwise, they would be admitting that there is something greater than themselves. That their interest in a plastic crown for their faction exceeds their interest in a victory for their university demonstrates this to be so. Honor belongs to those that support the true rule. Far East Conference
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??Your right...those that stayed seemed to be having alot of fun, yelling and waiving their arms in cadence with the band.
Two ideas, A. Move the fraternity tents to Mustang Row--the brick walk way from the Mustang statues to the stadium (make them closer to the stadium than their franternity houses). Let the students at half-time go out to their tents, get a nice soft-drink and return to the game. B. Turn on the sprinkers at the two kickoffs (start of the game and beginning of the second half).
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??Dont bad mouth the students. It's SMU and sure a lot of them dont go to the games, but that happens everywhere. Just looks worse when we only have 6,000 to start with. While at SMU these guys were some of the loudest and most devoted fans. I loved Varsity after them games looking up at those guys that wanted nothing but the best for us. Others will follow, but lets remember the ones that have always been there.
There was a student that ran onto the field and grabbed a Nevada helmet one year. He said that their secondary needed help. Only at SMU.

Ha, I remember that game and watched him being escorted out

Selling alcohol at the game would be more efficient. Far East Conference
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??What do you expect when there is no alcohol served at the stadium and they don't allow readmission?
It's not that us students don't like football. We do. We just like getting drunk more and there's only so much we can fit in our flasks. The obvious quick fix would be to allow student re-entry. I think it's ridiculous that they don't allow it to begin with.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??
Listen to this student, for while he is drunk, he understands. Fraternities will not compromise on their principles. Far East Conference
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??I think the politics of some of our older board members would make selling beer inside the stadium too tough to tackle at the moment...we would make more money for the atletic program, but so what? Seriously, would the students embrace my first suggestion? We parents will embrace the second!
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??They really do need to rethink the readmission thing. many of us like to go out to the tailgate, have a beer, check the scores of other games, etc.
But as for the students, give them credit. More and more of them are coming out each week. They are standing the entire game, they are loud. If you want a larger student section, keep winning. If you want to sell out the whole barn, keep winning. I know its frustrating seeing meager attendance numbers, but look at it from an 18-20 year olds perspective. They havent had to deal with years and years of awful results. And at the end of the day, 5-4 doesnt mean a whole heck of a lot to a young student who hasn't been fully immersed in our program and its history. 99% of them came to SMU knowing "our football team sucks, but the girls are hot" and nothing more. Most SMU students came here watching teams like Texas, Florida, USC, etc. 5-4 and maaaaaybe a bowl means very little in the big world of college football. Obviously to us, it is much much more than that. KEEP WINNING, and you will see the stands continue to fill. Keep winning after that, and more of these kids will end up buying season tickets when they graduate. It WILL snowball if we keep winning. And let's credit the kids that are coming week in and week out. Let's encourage them to bring their friends. I understand the frustration, but take a step back, do a breathing exercise, and look at it through their eyes.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??If you tap kegs, they will come.
