Give Me Your Ideas

Introduction. My name is David and I have the honor of being the Mustangs PA Announcer for Football and Men's and Women's Basketball this year. I have a 24 year best friend relationship with a family of SMU Alumni who got me a try out with the powers that be and got the job. It has been an absolute dream job for me and I hope, with fan, alumni and management encouragement and approval, to be around a long time or until either my voice goes or they drag the microphone from my cold, dead hands.

Now This Is Where I Need Your Help!

I have already given Margus Hunt the nickname of "The Terminator" but would love your input on some other possible player nicknames to make the total game experience for the fans something that is fun and entertaining, yes, but more importantly, gives the players something interesting to have said about them.

Please also feel free to give me your ideas that will improve the game experience for Mustang Sports in general. If you have questions.... let them rip. I will always give you an honest answer.

I look forward to meeting you at a game.

Red & Blue Forever....

David

You have that right. Thanks for posting over here David.

I would say that the "Terminator" is pretty cool but giving too many nicknames will diminish the effect. I also believe you will get some good input on other parts of he presentation that will be helpful. One would be to be careful not to have the mic on when the student section is talking. That could lead to a disaster.

for starters, #17=Emmanuel Sanders. Like the christmas time stuff. Emmanuel. Like Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rhymes w/ the guy on Obama's staff. Does not share the same first name as one of Martin Sheen's boys.

While I'm thinking about it...and this probably isnt so much a PA announcer thing, but while it's on my mind...whomever is responsible for imploring the crowd for noise...after a good play=okay. Defense=all day long. When we're about to run a play on offense: no.

I saw incredible "gameday presentation" while at the Colts game yesterday. It is surreal, almost, how educated the crowd appears. When the Colts are on offense, the video boards flash "Quiet please...Colts offense at work..." and the place is as silent as a golf tournament while Tiger is putting. No exaggeration. Upon the conclusion of the play, or during, it gets loud. Then they shut it off. Defense was another story.

I think the announcing has been much better this year..... but I hope you have thick skin, as any public figure must.

my apologies...I absolutely should have mentioned something to that effect. I do think there has been a noticeable improvement.

Anyone involved in gameday presentation should take a visit to another successful big-time college football venue on their day off and take comparison notes. This includes security, food vendors, and programming.

First, you were a great step forward.
Too many nicknames won't work, like telling too many jokes about your "wife"
Announcers have to have personalities, but. they are very subtle, this isn't the WBA.
I mentioned earlier about giving out the scores of other games at appropriate time. The old Cotton Bowl announcer would add suspense and drama, espcially when an upset seemed possible. Sometimes reversing the order to the school, using long pauses for effect, but told in such seriousness, you would have thought he was reporting a major battle. Someone suggested listening to UT, they still include the Slippery Rock scores. He would read it like he was taking it off the old teletype machine, "from Austin," (quiet),....the University of Texas 24, (booooo)....Baylor 25 (yeah!)...hopefully you get the idea. Can you imagine Saturday if Houston and Tulsa were playing simultaneously with SMU/Rice, the drama of listening to the announcer and waiting for an update, hoping SMU might finish the day on top of the conference?

Could you please tell the chick on the sidelines that she does need to scream into the mic.

This is too good to be true...A person in game presentation actually asking for fan input?!

Makes you wonder if this really is the PA announcer and not some troll.

I have not seen this girl yet, but I can tell from working with a guy who likes to yell a lot that sometimes this problem is better solved by holding the microphone 1-2 inches further away from one's face
