Kennemer Named Conference USA Defensive Player Of The Week
Senior Earns First Career Honor

Nov. 9, 2009

IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU senior linebacker Chase Kennemer has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after helping spark the Mustangs to a win over Rice on Saturday, the league office announced today. Kennemer had three fumble recoveries and eight tackles in helping SMU to a 31-28 win over Rice. His efforts helped SMU to a 4-1 start in Conference USA play, the best start since going 4-1 to start the 1986 league slate.

Kennemer has registered six 10-plus-tackle games in 2009 and ranks 15th nationally in tackles per game (10.33). Kennemer and the Mustangs return to Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they host the UTEP Miners at 2 p.m. For tickets, call 214-SMU-GAME.

Watching the film at the Mustang Club lunches you notice that he was even in on plays where you didn't notice him the first time around.

Somebody who saw practices in 2007 and 2008 needs to tell me why he didn't get on the field much sooner.
