secondaryEveryone talks about the lack of offensive production, but looking at the stats I see where the Texas Tech QB passed for over 500 yds, OSU wide receiver caught a record 7 TD's and the Boise State QB passed for over 500 yds. Does any body have any ideas about what has caused the collapse of our secondary, which was, at one time, the strength of our defense?
Re: secondaryThose teams are destroying everyone's secondary. Although ours HAS gone to ****.
Re: secondaryits really hard to fairly judge the secondary. They have almost an impossible job when our dline doesn't get any pressure on the qb. On the other hand, they aren't making plays even when they are in close enough range to do so. Its probably a confidence thing at this point.
Re: secondaryOur #1 problem for the last two years is that our DBs don't/won't contend for the ball. Last year we had two excellent CBs in Garrett and Rutledge. They could run with almost anyone. This "shadowing" of a receiver works O.K. when your defending a poor receiver, but when you're matched up against good receivers like Okie State's Woods, you better get up in the air and fight for the ball.
Making the situation worse, this year it's not that we're merely not contending for the ball, but our DBs have also been out of position on more than one occasion. To their defense, they're all a little (or more than a little as the case may be) banged up. But the end result is that we're getting torched through the air. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. Re: secondaryToo hard to tell at this point. Jonas is very good, but sometimes (OSU) needs safety help against bigger receivers - which he obviously didn't get. Ruben Moodley is re-learning how to play CB after playing safety for a couple of years. Humphrey is fast and talented but small and learning - jury's still out. Many of the others -- McGee, Sturdivant, etc. are too young to tell. I think there's some real talent there, but it's awfully hard to learn the position without considerable practice time, because your mistakes look pretty obvious (touchdown passes).
Re: secondaryAnd as I recall 2 safteys are out for the season.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: secondaryIf the secondary is as thin as yall say it is, is there any chance C.D. Moss gets his redshirt lifted to help out? How has he looked in practice?
