CUSA celebration

There has just not been enough high fiving around here on this whole CUSA deal - this is huge for us. I know its hard to celbrate when we are staring at a goose egg in the win column, but it achieves:
1. Getting regional rivalries going again.
2. lowers travel cost
3. increases home game attendence - from both our fans and others.
4. From a recruiting standpoint it is a better platform.
Marketing department - plan a party for the SMU community (down on Ford field) to make a big deal out of this.

everyone is watching tranghese's little east to see what they do first since everything is contingent on them.
then we'll celebrate - or not.

People. Hello? Earth to crazy SMU fans. We'd be the first to go, not matter what. It's not like we're waiting to see if the BE will take a 4th team. Chill. We're going to CUSA.
*high fives all you suckas*
Go Mustangs!

Why would we be the first to go? Rice just won the NC in baseball which is a sport that seems to be pretty important to CUSA, and Tulsa is a regular player in the NCAA tourny in basketball, another important sport to CUSA. When it comes to football we are equal to Rice and Tulsa at best, while worse in two pretty important sports.

Yeah, I think that is a bit much to think we would be first.
And T, you da man.

We're the first in line because C-USA's conference commissioner lives in Dallas and he wants to move the conference offices here, from Chicago. Bannowsky has wanted us in C-USA for years, for the simple reason that he lives here and with SMU and TCU both in the conference, and Depaul probably leaving, he can move the conference offices here.

While that may be true, it probably isn't good to pin all of our hopes on the fact that the commissioner likes Dallas better than Chicago. If that's the only reason we get in, then I'm really worried about how assured our position is.

even if we go - the only intellegent "celebration" and discussions on the matter can occur after we know (with certainty) exactly how these foo's gonna play this out !

Setting aside the celebration question, what is the timetable after the November 4th announcements?
'04 or '05 Season?

I believe the '05 season is when all the anticipated changes will occur.

I'm not completely sure why, but I do think SMU is first in line by all indications. Honestly, I think its because of the stadium and the Boulevard on a good day. The atmosphere is tremendous and all its missing is a winning team. Most administrators realize that no one draws very well when they are losing. I imagine we give a hell of a good tour when CUSA officials come to town.
