Today's Honlulu newspaper has Kates DMN article about SMU and our bowl hopes which mentions the Hawaii Bowl. They are talking about us coming out there.....it may already be a done deal.

I'm afraid the loss last night practically sealed the deal with us going to Hawaii. Our potential opponents are Idaho and Fresno State? And/or is Hawaii still in the hunt with a 5-6 record and 2 left to play?

You could be playing Hawaii if Hawaii can beat Navy and Wisconsin at home in back-to-back games to end the season. If not, I've been hearing a lot about Nevada being in the Hawaii Bowl...SMU matches up much better against Idaho and Fresno State, Nevada has been much better than either of those teams the second half of the season.

Nev and Fresno would trounce us with the run. Idaho would be manageable, we could beat those guys.

Fresno is *not* that good this year...Nevada is a whole level better than Fresno.

I'm hoping for an SMU-Fresno St matchup. Nevada would leave its bootprints..er, pawprints on our season.

Talked to one of my old roommates the other day who is from Fresno. Said it was the worst team they've had in years and couldn't believe they would even get a bowl game with how bad they have been.

In these smaller bowls, the win is not the big thing for the audience. I do not remember who won any of them last year. What is important,of course, is the extra practice, the thrill for the kids, and some good publicity. Personally, I think if we were to play Idaho, our death penalty comeback story, June Jones return, added to the fact our BB team will be there at the same time, we would be getting unlimited attention. With no offense to them at all, I do not see a great national story coming out of Idaho getting to the Hawaii Bowl. Even the Idaho press would probably be concentrating on us.

BTW, don't we have a walk on or didn't we almost get a walk on from Idaho, the State not the school?

It has been a done deal all year. Just get to six. Presto. No drama.

How tight is June with these Hawaii Bowl people? Would he suggest Fresno would be a better choice because they double Nevada's avg. attendance?

Heck with that. I want to be assured of a winning record. But more importantly, those 15 extra practices will be so important going into next spring. It's like another spring football.

But if Rice beats Houston and we take care of business, we're in the CUSA championship game. So there is a lot to play for on Saturday.

BTW, it's just nice to have meaningful games in November.

don't know about the Idaho player, but I do know that our LB transfer/walk on (I think) from Fresno, Aaron Davis, so p.t. at NOSE on Saturday, ahead of Jimmy Chase
