I really cant understand why we dont recruit more D linemen. Patterson's defense has always rotated 10 linemen for 4 positions.

It's the hardest position at which to get quality. A lot of TCU's defensive lineman like Jerry Hughes played other positions in high school - very hard to compete against the BCS schools. TX and OU stockpile these guys and have players who never play who are better than most stars at smaller schools. Just another reason not to like TX or OU  Easy to get fat/slow defensive lineman buut they usually don't pan out and can be a detriment (see Stallion's 9 million quotes about fat/slow d linemen).

If you cannot get quality at the position (which I agree is very hard to find) there is no real reason to waste a scholarship on a mediocre player. Other than Jones' offensive mind set, I think this is why we see so many receivers and even DBs. If we could get quality DLs we would but you have to sign the best available and until you can get the one you want and need you might as well stock up on the high ranking skill guys until you are able. Listening to the Arkansas recruiters up here, they have the same problem. All the fans want to know why they are not signing big DLs and the rivals rep just says that they are trying but that the pool is limited for guys that can actually do the job.

That said, we need to push to get the Harville kid from Shiloh Christain, and try to get Keihl Frazier to follow. That would serve great needs on both offense and defense.

Yes, I understand that quality DTs are hard to find, but we need some depth and must settle for some less than stellar players at this position. I listened to the game on Saturday against Marshall, and I think Rich Phillips said that Parham, Pittman (one arm), Thompson, Frazier, Hunt, and Aaron Davis all played some at NT. Give me a non athletic 300 lb fat boy for a couple of plays to give the regulars some rest in an emergency rather than moving a 240 lb LB to that position during the game. What happens if Parham goes down, is Jagared Davis next in line to play DT.

Matter of opinion but I would rather put a skilled J'gared Davis in than a mediocre player that is using a scholarship that could be used for a higher rated player at any other position. I totally understand your point but still would rather try for the above average to good rated than use a scholarship on a mediocre. We are suffering at many positions due to lack of depth, and thus we need quality everywhere right now. If we become 3 or 4 deep everywhere else and still lack at DL than perhaps, but then again, when we get better depth at all other positions, our team will look much more attractive to top DLs.

As other have pointed out the there is a lack of large good ng's but I belive that the fast good lb's we are recruiting is to cover this problem.

Well we agree to disagree! Even more reason to save a spot for a JUCO DT every year. Signing a JUCO DT should be a top priority every year to provide depth.

you'd think that we could get one starter each from a) whatever conference has Tyler, Navarro, Kilgore etc and b) whatever conference has Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, NMMI, and Arizona Western
