Bowl rep says Hawaii is eager to say 'Aloha!' to Jones, SMU

UNIVERSITY PARK – If SMU heads to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl as expected an announcement could come as early as Monday, said David A.K. Matlin, the bowl's executive director – it will make for a made-for-ESPN kind of story.

Coach June Jones would return to the site of his former football makeover at the University of Hawaii, and SMU would return to the site of its last bowl – the 1984 Aloha Bowl.

"Obviously we'd love to have SMU and the Mustangs and coach Jones," Matlin said. "There's a lot of excitement in Honolulu about it. He's turned around two programs in very similar ways."
