TCU gets coverage during broadcast about game and helping less fortunate kids. Channel 8 then leads sports with the amazing win over New Mexico(They have won 1 game). No mention of the hundreds of buses SMU sponsered today.

might have had something to do with TCU's finishing an undefeated regular season and maintaining that #4 ranking

remember...we are still a couple of recruiting classes away from being a headliner

we need to root for TCU's continued success. Sure will be special if the next time we beat them, they are ranked in the top 10

I dont know where the busses were parked, but the kids were in the upper level on the east side. There were a lot of people sitting in those seats that are always empty. I think it was great to put them in good seats instead of the usual end zone stacking.

Oh, and when are you guys going to learn never watch Channel 8 news. The entire metoplex is starting to learn as the Channel 8 dynasty of 10pm news is now tied with Channel 11 in the ratings. Now if Channel 11 would get a real sportscaster instead of Jerry's hommie Laufenberg, they could topple Belo.

Sorry, but there were nowhere close to 10,000 kids there.

There were a lot more people in those upper level seats on the east side than normal, but not nearly 10k kids. SMU raised money for a specific purpose, and it did not succeed. I hope they will communicate (preferably publicly but at least privately to the donors) what went wrong and how they plan on fixing it in the future. Otherwise, they might find that people are hesitant to give for similar endeavors in the future.

Did they overestimate the interest in coming to an SMU game, even for free, amongst people who are not necessarily fans? Did people commit to showing up, but then not do so? Did they not get the word out well enough? Lot's of possibilities for what went wrong and plenty of potential to make it work better in the future.

I do not know what occured with the bus brigade. It was obvious that 10,000 kids were not their. I would imagine that try as they could, there was not enough interest on a holiday weekend to get that many kids to agree to come. I can only hope that the $150,000+ donated for the bus brigade was not all spent up front. If there was a substantial amount of unused money, maybe we could request it be used towards getting the band to Hawaii. A goodly amount of that money should still be available if it was not paid up front, and I as one of the donors would gladly make mine money available for the band.

Great idea, Myrdel. And yeah, Thanksgiving weekend probably wasn't the best time to try to organize something like this. It is the best time to try to fill the stands.

Maybe next year with more advance notice - and more publicity - it will be easier to get more kids together for this program. My guess is there were plenty of kids willing to go, but not enough adults available on a holiday weekend to organize and chaperone.
