had Herbstreet on as a guest, discussing ND's coaching situation, and the lack of success for the Irish in the last 16 years. Herbstreet brought up the academic/admission restrictions that have been and are in place at ND, and how this places the school at a disadvantage in recruiting the top athletes...

sounded awfully familiar...

interesting point was that after Kirk exited, Mike Golic pointed out that the 'landscape' of college football has changed, and that kids are more likely to go to a school that is on TV, and that has a proven record of getting them to the next level (NFL). He didn't see that there was a problem having the 'high' standards at ND, and that they could and will again be a top 5 program.

Easy to note how the mighty have fallen, but more interesting to me is that this is an issue at an 'elite' football school as well as at SMU. Watching to see how this one spins out.

Golic is looking through rose colored glasses. He is an alum and both his boys go there. Saw them play at the U. S. Army All-American Bowl and neither were impressive. I think they got their scholarship because of their Dad. If not and if they are representative of the talent at ND it will be awhile before ND returns to glory.

Yeah, Golic was really angry at the scouting services and how awful they are. I figured that Rivals must not have rated his kids very high. I looked them up, and sure enough, Mike was a 3 star with 2 offers and Jake was a 2 star with 2 offers (both were UCONN and ND).

Funny about those elite schools, some know how to finagle it and get great players. Stanford, for example.
