A 5-30 record gets you an additional year? This has nothing to do with football and everything to do with being broke. I also loved this quote by the AD. "We do keep score." Genius!

while you never want to throw good money after bad, Dodge could turn it around next season while his 2008 recruits spend another season figuring it out. Add to it their financial situation out there, and it may just work out for the best for them.

NTSU lost 5 games by 4 points or less and 1 game by a td--they have this years 9th best rusher in D1 coming back and the teams 4 top receivers back-- Riley Dodge missed 2 games hurt and played hurt in 3 or 4 more--it is worth one more year to see if Dodge can turn it around --also saves money.

I don't think there is a better option. They don't have the money that SMU has. They can't bring in a June Jones type. You might as well stick with Dodge and hope that he turns it around. He is connected to high school coaches in Texas, so he has just as a good a shot as anyone else.

The other question is...who would want the job?

I'm glad Dodge gets another year. As I have said, he is one of the best teachers of the QB position I have seen. (This is not a suggestion he knows the position better than Jones.) He can flat out coach.
I really think people who are suggesting he is a horrible coach do not know what they're talking about.
I personally think he should have started in college as a QB assistant and then move his way up. I understand that when UNT came along, it was too hard to resist. He wanted to challenge himself.
He got his era off to a bad start because he made bad assistant coaching moves with his original staff. Dodge brought too many of his Carroll assistants with him including the big A-hole Ron Mendoza, who is now slumming in Springtown.
If he had mixed more experienced college assistants with a couple of his Carroll coaches, I think that would have made a big difference.
UNT is going through what we have endured for years -- losing a bunch of close game by a couple of plays. The only way that starts to turn is when somebody steps up and makes a play and turns a game.

Judging by Padron, who was mainly a back-up at SLC...I wouldn't mind having Dodge on our staff after he leaves UNT, to help with the offense...

Who would you run off to make room for Dodge, Jeff Reinebold, or JJ's qb coach for nthe last 11 years Dan Morrison?

Jeff Bower and a few other veteran coaches were rumored to be interested.

Don't get me wrong, I love the current coaches, just think a guy like Dodge could be an asset, pretty sure he would never take a job like that anyway...
