NO KIDDING!
I understand wanting someone you perceive as an elite coach to stay, but was there really a danger of him walking away at $3 million per year? No way that clown should be the highest-paid coach in the country.

Texas faculty: Brown raise 'unseemly'
Associated Press
AUSTIN, Texas -- Some University of Texas faculty question whether football coach Mack Brown is worth $5 million annually when the school faces tough budget choices.
University system regents last week decided Brown deserved more money, raising his annual pay from $3 million. The Longhorns will face fellow unbeaten Alabama in the Citi BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 7.
A resolution approved Monday, in an informal vote during a UT Faculty Council meeting, said the $5 million deal was "unseemly and inappropriate." The group lacked a quorum for an official vote.
Texas president William Powers Jr. said the athletic program, under Brown, has had no subsidies or deficits and has channeled $6.6 million into academic programs in recent years.
Brown's salary is paid with money raised by athletic department revenues.

Paid by donor funds. Yes it is high but not their decision. Are their SMU faculty members complaining about the Circle of Champions?

Clown? To bring reality to this board-why shouldn't the Coach of the team with the best winning percentage in the NCAA over the last 8-9 years be paid at the very top of the pay scale. Every seat has been sold during his tenure-the athletic department made 120 Million last year-20 Million more than the next closest team.

When June signed, more than 2 of my professors had grumbles (especially after the 1 win first season). Not that they could do anything about it, but they obviously weren't football fans.

Whoa! This is a record for whiplash, knee-jerk UT defense. Way to go, big guy.

I don't get there displeasure? The football program don't use state funds and make about 90 million for the school. Plus, they give back 6 to 7 million for academics? I don't see any professors making even $100,000 for a school?

Why are you surprised by this attitude? Professors believe that if these coaches weren't getting such high salaries the University would pay them more. Talk about delusional!

Were the UT professors involved from the Spanish department?
Tell them that the faculty can always agree to sign a percentile contract with the university, based on the revenue that THEY generate.
apples and oranges, but another chance for folks outside the decided mainstream of the university, students, and state they serve to bleat.

This isn't a UT fluff post - it's the damn truth. Did you even read the post? If June came out and got a BCS bid in 2 years would you
oppose a raise?

heard that when Mack came aboard, UT football was making around $30 mil a year. Now upwards of $90 mil. Give the guy what he deserves.

How is a statement of facts considered a knee-jerk reaction?

To some on this board, anything defending UT is a "knee-jerk reaction."

Point taken. I still don't understand why people feel so much hatred towards the best program in the state.
