According to him, SMU bears no responsibility whatsoever for getting the death penalty. It's bitter guys like him that will keep SMU's name and the DP linked in perpetuity.

There is not, nor ever has been,a more dirty, rotten to the core(ie President, Head Coach, Board of Govenors, Athletic Director) institution like SMU in the 1980s-some of you seem to want to gloss over what happened. Some of you were probably involved. History destined to repeat itself? Anybody trying to lay blame on anything other than SMU is a joke. Some of us that had to live through this [deleted] for 25 years are not going to allow that type of irrational misdirection of blame to anyone other than our own idiots.

Stallion is correct. That said, UT is like the kid who's father is the Sheriff. (UT's President has served on the NCAA Infractions Committee numerous times). They seem to never do anything wrong. UT must therefore have the cleanest program in the history of college football. Not only that but most of their players who had minor scrapes with the law seem to have never been convicted of any crime. After all, boys will be boys. We need to be forgive and forget Christians. To be fair, I have many friends who knew Mac Brown when he was coach at UNC. They said he was without a doubt a very honest man. So, while I do think that UT probably has some boosters running around throwing dollar bills at things, and their players seem to fill a police mug books, I would be surprised to see Mac Brown in on these schenanigans.

This is so unbelievable that the argument that Texas is to blame for SMU's corrupt way of running its football program. We were already on pretty serious probation when damnation struck. And shame on us.

I believe WE were paying the players. WE got caught (I could care less who the whistle blower was). WE got severly punished for a trail of cheating that was borderline insane.

He may say it jokingly, but when Craig James is talking on TV he took a paycut to play for New England after SMU, it kind of tells you how sorry the whole time period was -- even though the on-the-field product was pretty good.

These clowns couldn't keep their hands out of their wallets. Bill Clements was a dumba$$. My first two years on this campus were in '87 and '88. Lots of fun on Saturdays during the fall !

That cartoon hits the nail on the head. He may have missed a few things, but I think we all know the secret to the Texas success $$$$$$$$$$$$. Hey they stole my line, "A victory for Texas is a victory for the forces of darkness." As Dickerson says, no one ever asks me what ATM offered. I think the cartoon is a hoot. I don't blame UT for SMU getting caught, but I blame the NCAA for not being even handed. And by the way I still hate Texas, always will because the majority of their fans are not alums and even if they are they did go to UT, they took the easy route and weren't part of the true honors college which, according to my law school room mate, who was a UT alum, the only part of the undergrad population that mattered. Patton, how dare you use as your avatar a son of the South when you support all the yankee schools of the big ten. Wasn't that a VMI belt buckle Patton was wearing? You have no sense of history. You pompous wind bag. You and I would not get along in person. But we do agree on one thing, the resurgence of SMU football. Why don't you leave it at that?
