Congratulations Kelvin Beachum, Jr.!

IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU sophomore tackle Kelvin Beachum, Jr., was one of 12 student-athletes to receive the fall C-USA Spirit of Service Award, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today.The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service award will be presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing Conference USA's fall sports: football, soccer, volleyball and cross country.

Beachum took part in the Mustangs' SAAC "Changing Lives" initiative where he helped to collect change for RISE (Recovery, Inspiration, Success and Entertainment) Adventures. The Mexia, Texas, native has started all 24 career games for the Mustangs and was a second team All-C-USA selection this season.

so many of our student athletes are really special people; with the demands of school and their sport, they still find time to "do for others". Very impressive and well deserved recognition
