Jerrod Johnson’s emergence this year in his first full season as a starter has earned A&M assistant coach Tom Rossley the honor of being named the national quarterbacks coach of the year by FootballScoop.com, a website for football coaches and athletic directors.

Rossley (right) won the award over other finalists Dana Holgorsen of Houston, Greg Forest of Cincinnati and Mike Bajakian of Central Michigan. He was picked by a panel of current and former coaches.

Under Rossley’s guidance, Johnson, a junior, broke numerous A&M passing records this season. He completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 3,217 yards, and threw 28 touchdown passes against only six interceptions. Johnson ranked second in the Big 12 in total offense and third in passing efficiency, and was voted the second-team quarterback on the 2009 All-Big 12 team.

Rossley will receive his award at the American Football Coaches Association convention in January
