Nice job...some good stories.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

You gotta love Jerry Ball.

We played in two Mirage Bowls in Tokyo back then. I know we played a conference game against Houston. I thought we also played Notre Dame there. I went to both games, but can't remember--I wish I could tell you it was the Geisha's but alas...

Great article.

Miracle man Leach is now a Senior VP. Way to go Bobby!!!!

The only thing I disagreed with was that our secondary was breaking down late against ND in that
84 game. The game was fairly close actually.

Yes it ended with ND knocking on the door and Beurlin throwing into the end zone

No, we didnt. The game with Houston was our only Mirage Bowl. The Notre Dame game was the Aloha Bowl. When we came back from the DP they talked about having us back, but negotiations fell through. Houston did play in 2 Mirage Bowls, once against us, and once against Arizona State. Notre Dame played in the Mirage Bowl once, but it was against Miami, not us.

It's funny that the article had an interview with Cornelius Dozier, he sat next to me on the flight over in '84. He leaned over and fell asleep on my shoulder, and I couldnt wake him up. That was a very uncomfortable 6 hours.

Thanks, I know I went to the Miami/ND game. It was long over for Miami at the half. Long before they were the 'U'. I really thought SMU played twice--I will have to store that memory with the time I dated Christy Brinkley...
The only good thing about getting old, is that you remember alot of good times you never had.
