Where is the best place to watch surfers?

Postby ParkyPony » Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:38 pm

I know it's on the North Beach, but where? What town is it near? I wanted to go up there one afternoon and watch the pro's.

We were there yesterday. When I return from the pool, I will post the exact location for the Pipeline, etc.

Thanks all. We get in tomorrow afternoon and I'll hopefully see a lot of folks at the RumFire Bar & Grill at 5PM.

check the surf report before heading out to the north shore. Reports available on KGMBTV, KHONTV and KITV. No surf, no surfers. If the waves are 3 footers or less, just as well sit at the hotel lounge, drop a few and watch the locals and tourist surf off Waikiki. Coach Rheinbold is probably long boarding in front of the police station/Duke's statute just beyond the Moana Surfrider.

From Haleiwa going north on 83 there is miles of beaches with big surf. There are also houses along the beach so you can only see the ocean at certain points. The primary big surf areas are Waimea Bay Beach, which is about 3 miles north of Haleiwa, the Ehukai Beach , which is north of Waimea about 1 mile N of the foodland store at Pupukea and Sunset Beach, which is I mile north of Ehukai. The Ehukai Beach gives a view of the Banzai Pipeline.

Yesterday the waves were only running around 10-20 feet. We were there on Sunday so parking was scarce but was able to park fairly close to the various beaches. Lots of surfers.
