Do SMU fans believe me now???

Postby mustang musashi » Fri Dec 25, 2009 9:28 am

a while back when I was lobbying for the Hawaii Bowl and almost everyone here was against it, i said, it was by far the best bowl for SMU. It brought the national spotlight on SMU, especially since no other game was being shown. against the WAC it was the best chance for a win. the rest of the nation only sees SMU smacking down Nevada, they have no idea that they were missing players. The players had fun, and im sure the fans who went had a blast too. and isnt blowing out nevada by over 30 points better than losing to an sec team by 20-30. right now winning was what SMU needed, and thats exactly what they got. This is going to help big time in giving confidence to the boys for next season, as well as recruiting. SMU is back on the map in the middle of one of the richest states in terms of football talent. There are big thing in store for SMU football, there couldnt be a better time to be an SMU fan than right now...

I agreed at the time, b/c no one was going to travel to the Liberty Bowl - and it would have been embarrassing to see 4,000 fans there. This way, you have the "excuse" of it being in Hawaii - and it's a "better" story for ESPN.

Congrats. I've waited 20 years for this.

I tried to tell everyone the same thing, that this would be an SMU-June Jones lovefest, and boy was it ever! June said in todays DMN, "SMU couldn't buy that kind of publicity"!

during and after next season when recruits see that SMU is not a fluke you'll see recruiting really pick up and transfers will be lining up to play for SMU... It happened at Hawaii, and were inthe middle of the Pacific, IT WILL HAPPEN IN DALLAS...

No one argued against the scenario that played out! I say this even if SMU had lost. I am very pleased with going to the Hawaii Bowl given that we didn't win the conference. Aside from the Liberty Bowl, it is the best bowl destination the conference offers. However, you can't deny the prestige tied to the Libierty Bowl, which is why I was upset about JJ's comments at the time. That said, it could not have played out any better than it did!!! I would like to see us go to the Hawaii Bowl, Texas Bowl, Liberty Bowl, or BCS Bowl every year. I think those are the best bowl destinations for our team!

Not sure SMU will be in the Liberty bowl next year, might be in something bigger. I know it is early, however, this team is on a rocket. I would rather see SMU in a bigger bowl playing a better team than the # 5 or 6 SEC team. JJ does not really care that much about the Liberty Bowl per his insistence to go to Hawaii no matter where SMU finished.

I don't know where SMU goes next year. Hopefully something like the Fiesta, or bigger. Kinda weird. I will be moving to Tucson before 2011, so I guess I could make the bowl by driving an extra 100 miles.

If McNeal comes back, SMU could run the table.

I'd love to see SMU in Memphis next year...we would be C-USA Champs... probably ranked in the Top 25...Memphis is a fun, long weekend town....Liberty Bowl is usually the only game on TV at that time slot...would be playing a traditional SEC power like Auburn / Tennessee / Georgia, etc...I can think of a couple of worse scenarios...Go Ponies!!

If that is where we end up, that is OK. I think SMU is back with the big guys. I would rather have a BCS bowl. The sooner the better.

I know it is very hard to hope so much for SMU. I do understand all the hurt and tears. But it is over. It is time to believe again. Lets get something on the national stage. WE ALL KNOW, in the back of our minds, in the most quiet part of our brains, we will play for the National Championship, someday soon. AND WE WILL WIN. We all kow it. Is that crazy or am I right? Not just hype, but I do believe it. Kind of spiritual?

You guys in Dallas just have to find a way to get the stadium filled.
