As time ticked away in the fourth quarter, I drifted back to June 1985 when my Dad and I first toured SMU. And then I fast forwarded to this past August when I was in his nursing home room days before he died. I remembered I talked when he and I talked about SMU's bowl chances this year. He just firmly said, NO.
I just laughed then because in his final days he kept his sense of humor. But if it wasn't for him and his sacrifices for me from 1987-91 I would have never been able to feel like I did on Christmas Eve! I'll never repay it but only do the best I can to honor him as I wrap up his affairs.
But Dad, they made it! It was a moment I would have loved to share in real time. We just did it differently.
I miss you, Dad! I miss you so much! Merry Christmas!

Blessings to you and your family. My dad was a prof at SMU until his death in 1969 and I know he is all smiles up in the heavens now also. Great day. Merry Christmas.

May God bless you GSP. My dad passed away the year before I went to SMU. I kinda know how you feel to some degree.

My dad passed in '92, mere months after I graduated. He went to every game and every performance of the Mustang Band. The Mustang Dads must have had one heck of a party last night. RIP to all of them.

Peace, love and joy to you and yours. My dad's been gone for 15 years, but I still remember the long ride home with him after the Holiday Bowl. He would have loved the game yesterday and the new spirit. Nice having the comfort of eternal salvation and a loving heavenly Father.
