Reflections of the morning after of a 45-10 *ss whippin'

Postby ParkyPony » Fri Dec 25, 2009 4:57 pm

WOW...someone please pinch me again. I mean I was very confident we would win, but to hang almost half a hundred on Nevada was incredible. Kudo's to Coach Mason for having the defense playing as well as they played all year. The offense for just schooling the Wolfpack defense...hey Major Kudo's to every player, coach, trainer, manager, band and spirit squad member for providing that infectious "Mustang Spirit" (which was very evident), and to all the fan's who made the trip and those cheering from everywhere on the mailand. Thank you Steve Orsini for getting it started and making the right hires and making sure this athletic department is on it's way to being a Top 25 program. But, thanks most of all to Coach June Jones for his ability to not only coach the heck out of a football team, but his ability to relate, mold and teach these fine young men who are "our SMU Mustang's" how to win.

As I walk aound the Sheraton Waikiki on this Christmas morning and to other stores around the area it is amazing how many people notice my SMU cap and t-shirt and say, "man...you guy's were just awesome. One of the truly fun football bowl games I've watched in a long time." One guy just looked at me and said "you guy's have one incredible coach." He wasn't from Hawai'i, he was just vacationing for the holiday's and watched the game. It's a pretty cool feeling to walk by people today and they notice your cap and shirt and see that you are a Mustang Nation fan and see the smiles on their faces. Wow...that takes a lot of the sting out of the past 25 years.

Finally, It was really great meeting a lot of the Pony Fans poster's this trip. From ArkPony, Bus, Mustang Bill and others, it was truly a great Christmas Eve. I don't know about you, but I got the best Christmas present I could receive.

BTW, ArkPony...what was that final score again??? I just had to hear it to belive it.

Wish I could have been at that bar! I was just too wiped. I apologize to all those I promised I would come out last night... I'll make up for it tonight!

I TEVOd the game last night and have been watching it again tonight. What a great game. The Eggnog and Bourbon tasted so much nicer with each score over xmas eve dinner (sadly wasn't as nice this morning over presents! ) but I have never been so happy and was getting calls and texts from people who I never thought would say the words "Congrats on SMU" the future is bright! So glad for the guys and what this victory means.

From a Class of '56 member.

I have been a participant and SMU football fan for more than 50 years. In my opinion, the Hawaii Bowl win is the most significant victory for SMU during that time. The DP is behind us.

I really enjoy PonyFans. com because young guys keep me in the game.

Thank you very much and Happy New to all of you!!

Burleigh, I totally agree with you. I used to think the biggest win for SMU football was when we beat Texas in Austin in 1980. Especially now, and in the grand scheme of things, this win and this season, are much bigger. Nobody has to talk about the death penalty any more.

Now we have to get people to the games, and that includes non-SMU graduates. Starting with Homecoming this year, those home games were really fun. The fans got into the games and they were actually loud. We should sell at least 10,000 season tickets next year. We have to get ALL of the students to the games. If I am thinking right, we have tcu, Houston and Tulsa at home next year. We need to sell out those games.

Recruiting is going as good as it did in the 80's, and will do nothing but get better after this year.

The last piece is getting into a better conference. In my opinion, that needs to happen.

Truly awesome. I got home from Hawaii yesterday and watched 'All Grit No Quit' and then watched the game again. BUS, your featured prominently in All Grit.

I am stunned as to what just went down.

And many thanks to all of you who made my trip so awesome. BUS RGV, Mestango, Thad, ArkPony, Ponyscott - and many others I didn't know in person. Good times.

not here to stir up anything, believe me, im happy as can be that JJ smoked the wolfpack, but imagine if the fans got what they wanted and were lined up againstn sec team and got blown out by 30 points... you wouldve never experienced this bowl win experience in hawaii... that winning feeling is just what the doctor ordered... how would that have felt??? i would be

The size of the margin of victory was so unexpected by the pundits, that it really should create a buzz for the program. Let's build on this so that next year we go to the Liberty Bowl and kick and SEC team just as hard.
