SMU 2010 CUSA champions?

Postby hawaiisashimi_smu » Sat Dec 26, 2009 10:52 pm

One step at a time. Have to crawl before you walk.

It looks good to take it one step at a time.

So what do the SMU faithful think!!!!!

Its early! But you have to think if McNeal returns, the future is big time!

Even if McNeal does not return it is still big time for SMU.

I think it is up to the defense and not McNeal. Defense wins championships!

Even at Hawaii, JJ needed McMackin to get the Defense to win games and championships!!!

I don't know much about the SMU DC but he is big time!

Defense wins championships!!!!

What say the SMU fans!
Or is it too much too ask????????????????

This may be a case where we are a better team with a worse record, non conference games include TT , TCU, at Navy, conference games at East Carolina, at UTEP (who are goofy good at home), but hey, I like this team..

Its alot tougher schedule but we should be competitive...we know that we play them close as we saw this year. But CUSA Champion is a tough one to say so soon.....hope so...

Not an easy task next year - would be nice to win a few we aren't supposed to.
I'd say 1-3 or 2-2 to start. Probably about the same record? - 8-5 after another bowl or 7-6. - lots of injury variables, McNeal, etc...

Same schedule? Not really.

ECU away. Navy away. UTEP away. Tech away. Rice away (I know should not be a problem but let face it - they give us fits in Houston).

TCU at home helps - but we arent there yet. Houston and Tulsa at home - could actually do really well on both of them - but we will need it based on the above.

So I think next year we do well to qualify - and then it gets pretty interesting in 2011.

Probably won't be C-USA champs next season, I am thinking along the lines of 7-5 which will be good enough for a bowl bid.

I don't think that there is a huge gap in CUSA talent from top to bottom. It is a little like the NFL in that anyone can beat anyone on any given week. JJ has said all along that our guys were playing above their heads this season. I suspect that it true. For every game we could have won but lost, there was another game that we could have lost but won. Just hoping tough, early season, games don't stop the momentum we have built up. TT and TCU will be early reminders that there are bigger dogs in the neighborhood.
