Better get used to these "what's JJ doing at SMU" type articles:

I read that article earlier today. No way JJ leaves SMU for another school.

Considering that Jones had to work with two of the worst prima donna headcase QBs in modern history: Jeff George and Ryan Leaf. Is it any wonder that he walked away from the pro-game at that point lol.

I finally had to make a list of talking points in the last month for when this comes up in conversation, which seemed like every day:

1. June makes more money than 3/4 of the coaches out there, so it is unlikely he goes anywhere for more money as the schools that will pay more have good coaches and good programs. Though, to be fair, money doesn't seem to motivate the guy.
2. Jones won't go anywhere that he doesn't get to run the program the way he wants to and with minimal interference. That eliminates a lot of programs. He isn't going to go anywhere where he has to hear, "Well, that ain't the way we have done it here for __ years..." Accordingly, he would have zero interest in your typical Big XII or SEC school.
3. June is a strange cat. The dude won't wear socks. And it isn't just the socks. See point 2. There are not a lot of programs that are going to put up with his weirdness.
4. June likes turnaround jobs. He isn't going to go anywhere where he will have to replace a successful coach.
5. Jones says he thinks this is his last job.
6. Maybe some NFL team comes calling at some point, but that is unlikely.

Put that all together and there is maybe one opening a year (tops) that interests him. He said two years ago the only jobs he was interested in were Duke and SMU. Duke had no interest in waiting for him and they probably were not going to pay him $2Mil a year.

Dooby's analysis of the JJ situation is very interesting. What I find most interesting is the assertion that Jones is "weird." Living in Florida I don't get much behind the scenes news/data relating to Jones or the program. Weird eh ? Do tell more.

wonder if Daniel Snyder would consider releasing Jason Campbell and taking a shot at JJ, telling him he could promote Colt Brennan

Okay, panhandle pony, in my opinion and from what I've seen from JJ, he isnt "weird." I'd say more like "different," "unique," and overall he just likes to do things his way. Mike Leach, however, is "weird."

Junes Jones is not 'weird'. He's eccentric. ;)

Thanks Mr. Mustang1965 and Kent Dorfman. Keep us all posted on JJ's eccentricities - interesting reading.

Just a 'unique stang'....he's not going anywhere. I'm sure he wants to get SMU to a BCS game (if possible) to prove his point and leave a great legacy and then go be the AD at Hawaii and surf off into the sunset....( don't mind the no socks look but he could lose the lei's)

Kinda like his cryptic statement, I wouldn't say weird, but spirtual? Different? Unique all seem to fit. He said he knew God brought him to SMU for a reason (not the exact quote I'm sure.) guess we will know sometime in the future?

JJ also coached Jim Kelly with the Houston Gamblers in the USFL (who said playing in the USFL was the most fun he ever had in pro football running the run and shoot).

Kelly thanked Jones in his HOF induction speech, so did Warren Moon.

He's stated that a BCS bowl for SMU in the next few years is his goal (so unless leaving and coaching somewhere else helps him achieve that, then I'd think he'd stay).

Plus, he has all of those unstated reasons/goals for coming here that he won't disclose publicly; guessing those will keep him around until we find out what they are.
