Ok, can someone please explain to me why I'm supposed to hate Craig James? There's a lot of real hate for the man on this board, and as I understand it, it stems from percieved injustices that he perpetrated against the school while in the Booth. Is this the case? Did he rape someone's mom or dump your favorite pet into "Puppy lake?" What's the deal here?

Met him several times. Seems like a very good guy.

i have seen the guy make a few wisecracks over the years about SMU but who can blame him, we were terrible. Before the bowl game he seemed pretty excited for us! I dont know anything about the whole Adam trying to get into SMU thing and Craig was apparently mad about it (according to some on the board) so i have no opinion on that.

I think most hate him because he has not kept/pumped up with the program publicly, and because he has not been an active (on the campus/at the games) alum. I have no issues with him, and think he did more for the program than most in its history. He has never been publicly linked to the DP, so really I don't get all the hatred for him either. I really think his personality rubs some the wrong way - oh well.

He's likely to get suspended then.

But to answer the question, some people question his loyalty. I think he was right in calling our program a joke back when it was a joke. Thats his job by the way - college football color commentary. I got no problem with him - but I do think he does not suffer from any self confidence issues.

I have always been a James fan. His son (Adam) was in my brother cub scout troop =)

Craig James was the recruit who made SMU "cool' when SMU was thought of as a weakling. One of the most important commitments this school has ever had-next to Doak Walker. He was the original Pied Piper Recruit.

I've only met him once, and found him to be a complete jerk. The fact that he is the one who threw his kid's name into the media over this mess (protective dad, right??) does nothing to restore a "good guy" image for me.

Met Craig James at an alumni session in Boston back around '85. There was no reason for him to attend and talk except his love for the school. While I'm not a huge fan of his broadcasting, he's still called the Pony, which is good for the school & program. As Stallion stated, CJ was one of the first of recruits to commit before it was 'cool'. Memory was his girl friend (now wife I believe) was coming so he committed to Ron Meyer. As a parent of a college athlete, I bit my tongue rather than complain, however my daughter never was subjugated to the 'crazy' demeaning actions of the coach.
