Nice Blurb on Sanders• Keenan McCardell, a former WR who played in the NFL for 16 years, could be seen working with the West's receiving corps during the special teams period of Monday's practice. Washington drafted McCardell in the 12th round of the 1991 draft and he lasted that long because he didn't have elite size or speed. Still, he emerged as one of the best No. 2 receivers in the league thanks in large part to his route running. In other words, you would be hard pressed to find a better mentor/coach for West wide receiver prospects Seyi Ajirotutu (Fresno State), Verran Tucker (Cal), David Reed (Utah) and Emmanuel Sanders (SMU). They paid close attention as McCardell showed them how to get a clean release off the line of scrimmage and set up their breaks.
Of that group of receivers, Sanders created the biggest buzz. He is explosive off the line and tempos his routes well. He consistently separated from coverage during 7-on-7 and team periods. In addition, he displayed strong hands catching the ball away from his frame. Sanders is a bit undersized but he has the burst and ball skills to develop into an effective slot receiver. ![]()

Re: Nice Blurb on SandersSaw this on cbssports.com talking about Day 2 of the Shrine Bowl practices. Looks like Sanders is really standing out and making the most of the opportunity.
"SMU receiver Emmanuel Sanders is without question the quickest receiver here. He can elude defenders and accelerate quickly after the catch, although he will dance a bit too much at times instead of getting upfield. Though he's only 5-11, 182, Sanders showed himself a willing blocker against a stronger cornerback in Texas Tech's Jamar Wall, staying between Wall and the line all the way downfield. Wall did have one of the more impressive plays of the day later on, leaping high to break up a pass on an intermediate out route." http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/stor ... e-practice "I love coaching here at SMU University" -June Jones
Re: Nice Blurb on SandersAnother cool thing is that if you select the info for the game on Time Warner, one of the featured WR's mentioned is ES!
I am thinking this kid is going to get drafted.
Re: Nice Blurb on SandersMore praise for Sanders, this time from ESPN's Todd McShay:

Re: Nice Blurb on Sanderstheres no question ES is going in the draft bubba. just a amtter of which round. 3rd-4th....
Re: Nice Blurb on SandersSanders is getting drafted and anyone that has really paid attention has known that for more than a year now. A year ago, when he was thinking of entering the draft early, many were saying he would never get drafted and that he was nothing special. He would have been drafted last year and his stock is only improving. The one thing the pundits will point out when he is drafted is: he never had an upperclassman throwing him the ball.
Get used to seeing SMU players on Sunday, boys! And with all due respect to Morestead, I don't just mean punters! More to come. Maybe if Aldrick quits being a knucklehead, he will be next. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Re: Nice Blurb on SandersEmmanuel Sanders (SMU) caught some nice passes, but didn’t really wow me today. His best play of the day came on an end around that gained at least 20 yards for the offense. Sanders took the handoff and sped around the left edge to pick up big yardage. He showed some fast wheels on that play
