I watched a video of him the other day and...dare I say it...he reminded me of a #19 sort of player. Big and strong but will run past you like no one's business as well.

he's the best HS RB recruit we've had in ages, no doubt. I truly hope that he can make the transition to D1, where he wont be bigger than the linebackers he's facing. I don't see any way this kid reshirts, so I hope he can bring it at this level.

I know he plays against Oklahoma high school kids but any guy who rushes for 10.3 a touch and 25 TDs, weighs 200, is 6 ft 3 inches, runs a 4.4 can play here any day. Colorado, OU, OK State, Tech, Tulsa, Rice, Kansas, K-State, Arkansas....these are the other schools who courted him. I can't wait to see this kid and I hope he doesn't get rushed into things next year. I hope JJ slowly integrates him into the offense at first but by October he's getting 2/3 of the hand offs.

He will bring it as he is a hard worker and will be playing alot his freshman year. Being from a small school didn't hurt #19 as Sealy HS was pretty small back in the late 70's.

I like this kid a lot. He has terrific ability but he also seems like a sensible kid. He could have gone to OU, Tech, Arkansas, Ok State and played on a bigger stage but it would have made the transition that much harder because he'd be competing for playing time with kids just as capable as he is. Instead he gets to come to SMU, play for one of the best coaches in all of college football, and have a better chance to show his stuff. Seems to me that if he can stay focused when he comes to Dallas, listens to JJ and the rest of the coaches, and works his tail off then we will have ourselves an NFL-caliber running back in a couple years.

Fields reminds me a lot of Sergio Kindle. Having friends that attended Woodrow, I saw plenty of games where Sergio dominated. He had the same running style as Fields, and both played linebacker as well. The only difference is that Kindle went to UT as a linebacker and Fields will go to SMU as a running back. I really wish Kindle had been a RB threat for Texas like he was in HS. The kid had ridiculous talent and terrific breakaway speed. Fields seems to be the same way.

I'm excited as hell to see Daryl in a SMU uniform, but in the video it looks like he is playing against pop warner kids.

yep you need to know what you are looking at to really gauge players. SMU is on another out of state kid who makes ridiculous plays and scores and dominates from every position on the field but its hard to tell when you really don't know the level of play. for example kid reportedly has at least 23 interceptions in 2 years and has returned about 9 for TDS-just as impressive on offense, punt returner, kick off returner and run/pass QB with monsterous home run balls. I know one thing-the coaches in that league ain't up to Texas coaching because no decent coach would throw the ball on his half of the field after about the 5th Interception and 3rd TD and no Texas coach would ever kick the ball in his direction. In these situations you are comforted if they have verified track times-which both do.

remember that we're talking about "as a recruit" so taking Shanderrick's injury status in high school, I'd say it's close. But that was 2001, which to me qualifies as "ages ago" when you consider the 4-5 year cycle in college football

I think he looks good too. I'm ready for some depth at all positions and a real running threat to keep defenses uncertain. I really like the players who have enough guts to come build a program back to a winning one instead of following a ready made power, like Texas.

That is the first video I have seen of the kid and all i can say is WOW! he was for sure a man amongst boys at Madill and hopefully the transition is smooth for him when he starts competing aginst folks who are just as big and strong and fast as he is...still a little stunned by those few clips. so dang big and outrunning everyone! NICE!
