Top 25 in all that we do...

Postby ontheedgeofmyseat » Sat Jan 23, 2010 2:51 pm

...after our blazing spanking of Nevada, I am confident the football program is on its way to a Top 25 status...also..

Women's Cross Country = 25th at NCAA Championship
Men's Golf = #15
Women's Swimming = #18
Men's Swimming = #23
Women's Tennis = #23
Men's Tennis = Top 15 ranked player with strong prospects to finish Top 25 as a team..

Go Mustangs!! Looks like the overall program is heading in the right direction....

Time to get the mens soccer program back to where it should be. we are one of the only mens team in the region...ridiculous since Hyndman left.

I was about to say. The non-revenue sports weren't really an issue as SMU has been relatively successful in that aspect of its athletic program. If anything, we've regressed with the decline of the soccer programs.

Honestly though, the only programs that a vast majority of people care about are football and basketball. So far, the results have been mixed. Football is starting to rise while Basketball is not really doing all that great.

I do not know how you define "hardly" but a bunch of us have season tickets and attend almost every game. Today, for Houston Baptist, there were at least 7 regular posters sitting in section OO. We do support basketball but only wish we had a better product on the floor.

Bball..with Crum and some changes on the horizon with Moody and coaching staff should give Pony Hoops a bump in the right direction...Fball seems on solid footing...Women's hoops sniffed the Top 25 earlier this year...there certainly remains the realities of contracts and buy-outs..some on this board expect to birdie every hole..Fball success has given me a heck of a lot more patience towards bball..

That's cool - I have no doubt you attend a lot of things. I see you as a hard core fan and know there are some regulars out there -- I'm talking about a lot of fball fans here that haven't stepped foot in Moody in a long time.

Unfortunately true. I know a few who feel the only SMU sport is football. I am sure if the BB program ever does become a top 25 program many of the fair weather fans will return. Hope they have to sit in the rafters.

I applaud the goal but, with the exception of FB and WBB, the trend is not good. Beyond the absence of strong and competitive soccer programs and very marginal improvements in Men's BB, my greatest concern is for the continued health of swimming and diving.

Our Women continue to very competitive and relevant and the Men are top 25 (a historical drop, to be sure, since we have been Top Ten), but the future is not as rosy. Our inability to fund a new Aquatic Center will most optimistically perpetuate us as only a Top 25, but no serious threat to the Top 10 programs. I love the old Perkins, but recruiting, training and hosting events are problematic.

I have been supporting the replacement facility, but no realistic commitment to actually break ground will happen. Wish I had better news for the Men and Women. Reality sucks.

I was there today as well, although I may have been more interested in the recruits than the game this afternoon : )

How many were there for both games yesterday? I was. Women's basketball looked really good. The men's team...eh...I guess I'll take the win.
