File under the category "when was the last time!"

Rivals ratings by the way.

And no, I do not want to hear about grade inflation.

At this point we are in sole possession of #4 in CUSA and #3 by average stars. 8)

Good for 2011 recruits to see this. The high caliber recruits know that other high caliber recruits are coming to SMU and that may help influence them to come.. The coaches will use this when recruiting the future class.

True but stars don't mean everything. I counted 9 of your 3 stars that have no offers from any bcs teams. Two of the others had a single offer from Baylor and Iowa State, respectively. It seems to me that Rivals is dishing out a lot more 3 stars across the board this year. Not that things aren't improving - and this class may be great - but I woudn't base it on some random assignment of stars from some guys sitting behind keyboards (like you or me!).

To be fair about it a lot of our guys were early solid commitments and they let other schools know so. That is one of the main reasons for the lack of offers.

to be fair about it ReedFrawg has a good point. TCU had a lot of early commitments too-but more of their guys kept getting offered-schools aren't going to give up on top recruits any more when they commit 8-11 months before signing date. The Rivals 3 star Mania is illusory especially this year. The entire WAC Conference in which we played had 22 Three Stars and above in 2002. SMU has 15 this year and our class is in 5th place. Its largely a mirage.

To be fair a lot of our commits did not go to a lot of other schools camps as well and that affects offers. Also, there were a lot of 2 star kids in years past that should have been 3 stars. You here about them all the time. I think everything is about right.

Can't have your cake and eat it too. This is where coaching comes into play. These guys are better overall than what SMU has gotten in the past but more than ever it is about coaching, now. JJ and staff have to get the most out these guys and grow them up in the coming 2-3 years. This class, by 2012, partnered with growth & maturation from last year's class and the upcoming classes should be special. How many stars each has counts for something but the gap between 3, 4 or 5 star players is little or nothing by the time they are juniors, seniors or even 5th year seniors. Coaching, conditioning and diet over 4 years will make up for much of the difference. The rest is up to the players individually.

HUGE HUGE Gap between 2-5 Stars even as they mature. That's why the same teams win every year despite some of their best players going to the NFL. that's why the SEC has won 4 straight National Champions and before that schools like Texas, OU and USC won-they recruit the best players

For what its worth TCU has 18 commitments with 87 other Division 1A offers. SMU has 23 commitments with 51 other Division 1A offers. After following this over the years I think that's probably a pretty high number for SMU. I do believe however that if you compared BCS offers the gap between TCU and SMU would be bigger

That is pretty accurate. I agree.

Did a compaison to last year's larger 27 recruit SMU class. Last year's Class had 47 other Division 1A offers-which is 4 less despite 4 more recruits-plus 7 of those recruits didn't enroll.

Another point is, you cant always go by the list of offers that rivals reports. Many times I have seen differences between the offers that rivals and scout reports and often times recruits have official offers that are not on their rivals profile page....ie: jordan favreau last year had offerns from more than 8 schools, however his rivals page said he had no other offers...steven kaiser has an offer reported from Colorado and Wisconsin on scout while those offers are not reported on rivals...Kenneth Acker said he has over 10 official offers yet his rivals page lists 3 offers.....

Good point Click, Favreau's dad would not release the offers and Armen has the 10 offers for Akers but has not had time to updated his profile yet (as you probably read).
