SMU lost a commit to TCU today. Clifton Murphy, DE, will grayshirt at TCU this fall instead of playing football (probably redshirting) at SMU.

Usually a rivalry starts getting nasty when one school starts to take another school's highly regarded impact recruit. And that would seem to be the case if this is true.

He always was bleeding puple anyway and that is where he really wanted to go...so let him go anyway. He would not have been happy here and SMU never really had him but for a day so its not something that has been planned for. Good luck to him.

This was the fault of the WDNWHA Committee. Late night sessions this time of year are a [deleted]. We apologize to this young recruit for giving him the false impression that we desired his services, but in reality, the vote was not even close. We had his vote switched with the Michael Martin Murphy vote, who of course is greatly desired for a annual rendition of Wildfire.

He is passing on the SMU education and football to attend TCU. He decided to take the "gray shirt" rather than play for SMU. So instead of possibly playing this fall at SMU he will go to junior college on his own dime and then enroll TCU in the Spring semester. Ouch.
I would say that speaks volumes.
